Alone, ripped away from the last person who knew Rio’s true self—and the powerful siren voice she has long silenced—she has nothing left to lose.Guided by a dangerous and unlikely mentor, Rio formulates a plan that leads to increasingly treacherous questions about her mother’s death, her own destiny, and the corrupted system constructed to govern the Divide between land and sea. Her life and her city depend on Rio to listen to the voices of the past and to speak long-hidden truths.

Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

After the ending of white hot kiss left us gutted and bleeding all over our books, Stone Cold Kiss jumps in to kill us a little more only to patch us back up then rip the wound right back open. Layla (not to mention myself) is left with a broken heart after Roth sacrificed himself for her, and Zayne is there to pick up the pieces in Stone Cold Touch. SCT is definitely Zayne's time to shine, and he uses every opportunity he's given. He's sweet, protective and very Aiden-ish. There is a lot of Layla/Zayne time, so all you Zayne fans out there are going to be thrilled!

However, this book isn't just all lovey dovey Zayne time. Some crazy things start happening, and once again it's all tied to Layla. Things get so bad that loyalties are tested and relationships are stretched to the breaking point. No one comes out unscathed.

The silver lining in all of this is that ROTH comes back! It's a rough homecoming though because time has kept moving and now Zayne has made his intentions clear. And, my heart broke again. More and more bad things start happening though, so no time to cry.

Roth, Zayne and Layla must all team up together to stop this new evil that is threatening the world. The climax of this book left me with my jaw in the floor. It's crazy, wild, unpredictable and completely knocked me off my feet! I was literally screaming in my living room by myself while reading it.

JLA is a freakin Jedi-mind master! Just when you think you have this whole love triangle thing figured out she throws you a huge curveball and all the cards are laid on the table. I'm not going to lie, I still love Roth and am firmly planted in his camp. But she made that choice hard! There are several times in SCT that I questioned my loyalty, but then Roth would step up in big ways and tank me right back. I do think we might see a lot of people jumping ship to a different team, both ways! I don't envy Layla her decision. I think the ending of this book marks a huge crossroads. I remember this quote from North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headly, and I think it fits where this story is going perfectly!

"There must be a few times in life when you stand at a precipice of a decision. When you know there will forever be a Before and an After...I knew there would be no turning back if I designated this moment as my own Prime Meridian from which everything else would be measured." -North of Beautiful

So this next step is it. This is Layla's Prime Merdian, the point that she will look back on and always mark as her Before and After. It gives me chills to even think about it. I can't wait for everyone else to read this book! It's an amazing story that that just proves that Jennifer Armentrout is the real deal!
I was thinking we could do that to help Layla and all those in between decide whose team they should join. In the comments, let's make a pros list for each guy. No need to do the cons because in pretty sure there are none for each guy.:) So tell us, why should Layla pick Roth or Zayne!

I want to read about more young heroines whose strength is a defining character trait, much more so than prettiness. The sort of women who are survivors and who enable other people to survive. That's what I had in mind as I created the protagonist of THE CLOCKWORK DAGGER, Octavia Leander.

Octavia is twenty-two years old. She's spent much of the past decade working in surgical tents at the frontline of a vicious, never-ending war. She's a medician, what I call my magic-wielding healers, but is also trained to doctor the old-fashioned way. I modeled her on World War I nurses--those brave, often-sleepless women who dealt with amputations and the horrors of gangrene with limited supplies or respect.

Physical strength plays an important role, too. To be a doctor during a war means hauling around medical gear and unconscious bodies and doing whatever else needs to be done. When Octavia isn't at the front, she's on the working farm that's the academy for medicians in training. She can haul hay bales or suckling foals, or spend long hours planting tulips bulbs in a field.

However, when the book starts out, she's scared. Octavia knows battle--septic bowels, burns, and pneumonia--but she's on her own for the first time. She's in a strange city. Her attuned ears can hear injuries in the form of songs from people all around her. It's overwhelming and maddening, and she's keenly aware that she's young, female, and alone.

Octavia is strong, though. She has faith in the world tree she worships, the Lady, and she has a goal. She's set to journey by airship to a town where she'll establish her own medical practice, her own life. As the cruel author, I can't make things that easy or straightforward for her. The flight is quickly complicated by murder, poison, and increasing evidence that Octavia is the target--and she has no idea why.

With her medicinal herbs and her wiles, Octavia needs to stay alive and help everyone around her survive, too. She might be young, but she's already been to war. She's a soldier in her own right and she won't go down without a fight.

There are quite a few books that I am looking forward to, but one of my most anticipated is ENSNARED by A.G. Howard. I absolutely adore the Splintered series, and I can't wait to find out what happens with Alyssa, Morpheus (YAY!) and Jeb (meh). I can't wait to see Alyssa grasp her true netherling gifts and fight back to restore Wonderland to its former glory.

We've all at points run the blog depending on what is going on in the lives of the other 2. You know that pesky thing called life that seems to always get in the way!:) That's okay though because I wouldn't change it for anything. HOWEVER, I'm not sure if you know that we all owe our love of books to our mother! She was our English teacher all throughout high school! And, she also contributes to our blog! Not sure that YA Motherhood has the same flare though! Today is a review from our mom. It's 2 reviews from an older book series, but I know you guys will recognize it! Plus, Patch is always a huge contender in our Crush Tourneys! So let's show Patch and our mom a little love!!!
I am DYING for this book! Dead of Winter is book 3 in Kresley Cole's Arcana Chronicles. This series rocked my world! So obviously, my Waiting on Wednesday this week is:
Can Evie convince her rival loves to work together? Their survival depends on it in this third book of #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole’s Arcana Chronicles, a nonstop action tale of rescue, redemption, and a revenge most wicked.

Heartbreaking decisions
Evie was almost seduced by the life of comfort that Death offered her—until Jack was threatened by two of the most horrific Arcana, The Lovers. She will do anything to save him, even escape Death’s uncanny prison, full of beautiful objects, material comforts…and stolen glances from a former love.

Uncertain victory
Despite leaving a part of her heart behind with Death, Evie sets out into a frozen and perilous post-apocalyptic wasteland to meet up with her allies and launch an attack on The Lovers and the vast army they command. Such formidable enemies require a battle plan, and the only way to kill them once and for all may mean Evie, Jack, and Death allying. Evie doesn’t know what will prove more impossible: surviving slavers, plague, Bagmen and other Arcana—or convincing Jack and Death to work together.

Two heroes returned
There’s a thin line between love and hate, and Evie just doesn’t know where she stands with either Jack or Death. Will this unlikely trio be able to defeat The Lovers without killing one another first?

I am a HUGE fan of Christina Lauren. They are definitely in my drop everything and read category. And honestly, Christina and Lauren are just lovely ladies. I had to opportunity to meet them on the Belles on Wheels tour, and now I want to read everything they write even more! SUBLIME is their first trip into the YA world. And, sweet baby banana pants (my 5 year old's favorite saying), the cover is simply gorgeous!

Sophie Winters nearly died. Twice.

The first time, she's fourteen, and escapes a near-fatal car accident with scars, a bum leg, and an addiction to Oxy that'll take years to kick.

The second time, she's seventeen, and it's no accident. Sophie and her best friend Mina are confronted by a masked man in the woods. Sophie survives, but Mina is not so lucky. When the cops deem Mina's murder a drug deal gone wrong, casting partial blame on Sophie, no one will believe the truth: Sophie has been clean for months, and it was Mina who led her into the woods that night for a meeting shrouded in mystery.

After a forced stint in rehab, Sophie returns home to a chilly new reality. Mina's brother won't speak to her, her parents fear she'll relapse, old friends have become enemies, and Sophie has to learn how to live without her other half. To make matters worse, no one is looking in the right places and Sophie must search for Mina's murderer on her own. But with every step, Sophie comes closer to revealing all: about herself, about Mina and about the secret they shared.

I'm not a reader of murder mysteries. Yet something about the dark setup here just drew me in! The tag line on the cover reads: "the truth won't let her go." But that's not the half of it. Sophie's palpable desperation to tell the world what really happened is hard to read. She's trapped under the weight of everyone's disappointment. And she knows she deserves it, up to a point. It's horrifying nonetheless.

Wow!

This book jumps back and forth in time, which demands the the reader pay careful attention to the "tags" at the beginning of each chapter, which help anchor the moment in time. But the story is constructed skillfully enough that the non-linear narrative is never annoying. Reading this, I got whiffs of Gillian Flynn's twisty stories. (Although the characters here are FAR more likeable!)

You will feel for Sophie, cry for Mina and want to hug Trev. And the killer? You won't see him coming!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7547756189284687193.post-40043773592008464592014-07-02T03:00:00.000-05:002014-07-02T03:00:06.319-05:00Waiting on Wednesday: Don't Touch by Rachel M. WilsonBreaking the spine is a meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine. It spotlights books that have not been released, but you should pre-order today! This week's book that we're excited about is Don't Touch by Rachel M. Wilson.

I picked this one because I met Ms. Wilson at a conference this spring. She read an excerpt of her work, and it was funny and sad and brilliant all at once. So I am 100% sold on reading this the day it comes out. Can't wait!

A powerful story of a girl who is afraid to touch another person’s skin, until the boy auditioning

for Hamlet opposite her Ophelia gives her a reason to overcome her fears.

Step on a crack, break your mother’s back.
Touch another person’s skin, and Dad’s gone for good.

Caddie can’t stop thinking that if she keeps from touching another person’s skin, her parents might get back together... which is why she wears full-length gloves to school and covers every inch of her skin.

It seems harmless at first, but Caddie’s obsession soon threatens her ambitions as an actress. She desperately wants to play Ophelia in her school’s production of Hamlet. But that would mean touching Peter, who’s auditioning for the title role—and kissing him. Part of Caddie would love nothing more than to kiss Peter—but the other part isn't sure she's brave enough to let herself fall.

Perfect for fans of Laurie Halse Anderson, this debut novel from Rachel M. Wilson is a moving story of a talented girl who's fighting an increasingly severe anxiety disorder, and the friends and family who stand by her.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7547756189284687193.post-45636356279039025742014-06-22T12:22:00.000-05:002014-06-22T12:22:08.856-05:00Blog Tour and Giveaway: End Times by Anna SchumacherToday we have the pleasure of hosting the End Times Blog Tour! Q&A with Anna Schumacher

What are 7 things you learned from writing your first book?

Here are 7 things I learned from writing my first book:

It is, in fact, possible to write and sell a novel while working fulltime, maintaining friendships and a relationship, and still enjoying your life. It just takes a little extra discipline, and the willingness to make the time.

Your work is only as good as the team around you. I was so fortunate to have an amazing editor, agent, and publicist who believed in the book as much as I did – sometimes more! I couldn’t have done this without them.

Nothing kills writer’s block like a hoop jam! Sometimes the only way I could get unstuck was to get up, grab my hoop, and move.

When it comes to time, more is more. I wrote END TIMES over the course of a summer because I was super excited about the idea and wanted to get it all down before it was gone. Then everything happened so fast: Penguin bought it, and wanted it for their spring list, and all of a sudden I had to turn around two new drafts in a month! I’m really happy with the book, but there are things I would have changed if I had more time. When life gets too tough to bear in Detroit, Daphne flees to her Uncle Floyd’s home, where she believes she’ll find solace in the silent hills of her childhood summers. But Daphne’s Greyhound bus pulls over in downtown Carbon County and it’s not silence that welcomes her. It’s the sound of trumpets.

Daphne’s desire to start again in simple country comfort is instantly dashed as the townsfolk declare that the End Times are here. And incredible occurrences soon support their belief. Daphne does all she can to keep her head down and ignore the signs. She works a job at the local oil rig, helps around the house, hangs out with her pregnant cousin Janie and gets to know Owen, a mysterious motocross racer and fellow roustabout at the rig. But soon a startling discovery shatters her resolve and calls into question all her doubts and fears.

What if your last kiss was with the wrong boy?

Cassidy Haines remembers her first kiss vividly. It was on the old covered bridge the summer before her freshman year with her boyfriend of three years, Ethan Keys. But her last kiss--the one she shared with someone at her seventeenth birthday party the night she died--is a blur. Cassidy is trapped in the living world, not only mourning the loss of her human body, but left with the grim suspicion that her untimely death wasn't a suicide as everyone assumes. She can't remember anything from the weeks leading up to her birthday and she's worried that she may have betrayed her boyfriend.

If Cassidy is to uncover the truth about that fateful night and make amends with the only boy she'll ever love, she must face her past and all the decisions she made--good and bad--that led to her last kiss.

Bethany Neal's suspenseful debut novel is about the power of first love and the haunting lies that threaten to tear it apart

I know most of you are too young
to know about Jem and the Holograms, but this was by far and wide my favorite
80s cartoon about a music biz exec, Jerrica Benton, who transforms via hologram
earrings (I know, right!) into the international superstar lead singer Jem.
This double life of awesomeness leads to the world’s most complicated love
triangle ever because Jerrica’s main man, Rio Pacheco, also has a crush on Jem—who
is actually still Jerrica. It’s a head scratcher, but he has purple hair, so we
overlook the minor detail that he’s cheating on his girlfriend…with his

healthy hetero-girl crush. Chloe may be the narrator, but her saucy older sis,

Betts

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine. It spotlights books that have not yet been released, but ones that you should pre-order today! This week's book that we are anxiously awaiting is ZAC AND MIA by A.J. Betts. It will be released September 2, 2014 from HMH Books for Young Readers.

The last person Zac expects in the room next door is a girl like Mia, angry and feisty with questionable taste in music. In the real world, he wouldn’t—couldn’t—be friends with her. In hospital different rules apply, and what begins as a knock on the wall leads to a note—then a friendship neither of them sees coming.

You need courage to be in hospital; different courage to be back in the real world. In one of these worlds Zac needs Mia. And in the other Mia needs Zac. Or maybe they both need each other, always.

Yeah, I'm getting shades of The Fault in Our Stars, too! But the first chapter really rocks, and the voice of this book is so different. And if you need proof that this book isn't a wannabe follower of that other bestseller, this one won an Australian Literary award in 2012.
Cabaret meets Cassandra Clare-a haunting magical thriller set in a riveting 1930s-esque world.

Sixteen-year-old Thea Holder's mother is cursed with a spell that's driving her mad, and whenever they touch, Thea is chilled by the magic, too. With no one else to contribute, Thea must make a living for both of them in a sinister city, where danger lurks and greed rules.
Thea spends her nights waitressing at the decadent Telephone Club attending to the glitzy clientele. But when her best friend, Nan, vanishes, Thea is compelled to find her. She meets Freddy, a young, magnetic patron at the club, and he agrees to help her uncover the city's secrets-even while he hides secrets of his own.

Together, they find a whole new side of the city. Unrest is brewing behind closed doors as whispers of a gruesome magic spread. And if they're not careful, the heartless masterminds behind the growing disappearances will be after them, too.

Perfect for fans of Cassandra Clare, this is a chilling thriller with a touch of magic where the dead don't always seem to stay that way.

Dark Metropolis was one of those books that immediately caught my eye (while I was book stalking on Goodreads of course). The cover was so provocative and alluring, and then I read the synopsis. This book sounded new and exciting, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. The 3 things that drew me in, you ask?

1.) A world with good and bad magic (I love paranormal!)

2.) The Telephone Club--sounds like something right out of the 20s (my favorite decade)

3.) Freddy--magnetic and mysterious with secrets to hide....love!

Jaclyn's world is gritty and spell-binding, and I found myself turning the pages faster and faster. Just like it's cover, Dark Metropolis is beautiful and haunting.

I love that this book doesn't get weighed down in history. It has just enough to introduce you to their world and the past that led them to the current underground revolution. I don't like getting bogged down in the details; I much prefer to get to know the characters more intensely. As a result, the pacing was well-done. I didn't find myself bored, double checking when the chapter was going to end. On the contrary, I didn't want to stop reading--even when I needed to!

I really (I mean really) loved the Telephone Club, and I do wish we could have seen more of what really goes on in dark corners of the club. It was by far the most interesting setting in the book, and I found myself waiting to get further and further into it's lavishness.

Jaclyn did a good job of switching from one character's setting to the next, but I do wish that there were fewer characters that we had to follow so intensely. There were times when I felt like there were too many characters that she focused on (not too many to keep up with), and at times it made the book feel disjointed. I wish that somehow the stories could have been told with more connection.

And finally, the romance. The romance progressed pretty slowly, and I do wish that it would have had more passion. This world was so well built and so intoxicating that the romance just didn't live up to what was going on everywhere else. I almost wish this were written as a NA as I think there could have been some amazing romance that really makes you swoon.

Overall, this was a great book and a welcome change from what we see everyday in the YA genre. I will definitely be reading more of Jaclyn Dolamore!!!
When her mother dies, Barrie promises to put some mileage on her stiletto heels. But she finds a new kind of prison at her aunt’s South Carolina plantation instead--a prison guarded by an ancient spirit who long ago cursed one of the three founding families of Watson Island and gave the others magical gifts that became compulsions.

Stuck with the ghosts of a generations-old feud and hunted by forces she cannot see, Barrie must find a way to break free of the family legacy. With the help of sun-kissed Eight Beaufort, who knows what Barrie wants before she knows herself, the last Watson heir starts to unravel her family's twisted secrets. What she finds is dangerous: a love she never expected, a river that turns to fire at midnight, a gorgeous cousin who isn’t what she seems, and very real enemies who want both Eight and Barrie dead.

“Darkly romantic and steeped in Southern Gothic charm, you’ll be compelled to get lost in the Heirs of Watson Island series.” — #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Jennifer L. 1.) Toraf, we at the
YA Sisterhood love your sense of humor.
How has it helped you with a certain mermaid girl (who we are all
jealous of)?

Mermaid girl? Oh you mean Rayna. I
don’t know. Sometimes she calls me immature and she never laughs at my jokes
unless I’m making fun of Galen. Mostly she doesn’t like me. Sometimes she does.

anywhere on land, where would you go?

I would go where the real Tartessos
used to be so that I can imagine the huge waves that pulled it into the sea.
Plus, there’s got to be some keepsakes still hiding under the sand there that
Rayna would like for her human treasure collection. Or something valuable Galen
could sell for me so I can get one of those car things that he has. When I
learn how to drive.

how to drive while Galen’s asleep. I’ve only hit three things so far and one of

will unseal us. And there’s this one lionfish that I tormented when I was just
a fingerling. I always have dreams that he found me again only he’s bigger

question...to make us swoon. What's the
most romantic thing you've ever done?

pretty shells to put on her…on her…I think you call them breasts…She searched
for days and days and couldn’t find any that fit quite right and then I found
some. I knew they would fit right away because of the way they felt in my
hand—uh, they seemed to the perfect shape, I meant. So I brought them to her.
She was really surprised at first—she actually didn’t say anything. Then she
got mad for some reason and snatched them out of my hand. But I knew she liked
them because she wore them the next day.

Katy and Damon have become staples in our lives, and it will be hard to say goodbye! It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's Jennifer Armentrout! Seriously, JLA is better than Superman, Superwoman, Wonder Woman etc. It's just not possible for her to be human with the amount of writing she does and how magnificent it all is! I refuse to believe she is 100% human! She has to be something more! And, once again we are here to gush over a new book that is coming out! This time it is:

Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it’s one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took “mean girl” to a whole new level, and it’s clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She’s getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she’s falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn’t just buried deep inside of Sam’s memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

Mateo, the main male character in the story, is cursed with visions of the future. A friend of mine, after hearing this song, said it sounded more like Katniss Everdeen than Nadia Caldani … and since then I can’t unhear it. Still, I think this song works for any heroine who’s realized the deck is stacked against her, and plans to strike back.

The lyrics of this song refer to romantic disillusionment, I think. For me, though, they come from the demon Asa, who spends a lot of STEADFAST watching our heroes, and learning all their weaknesses, one by one.

Yet again I repurpose a breakup song. As you might remember from SPELLCASTER, Mateo believed he’d had a long friendship with Elizabeth Pike – which turned out to be an illusion she’d planted inside his head. Mateo’s figured out the truth now, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgiven Elizabeth.

Verlaine is probably the single most outcast person in Captive’s Sound. All her life, she’s tried to tell herself that it’s the people around her that have the problem – that someday she’ll find friendship and love. Then, in SPELLCASTER, Verlaine learned that dark magic was responsible for setting her apart from people, maybe forever. This song captures both the loneliness she feels and her determination to keep going.
