It's the OPAL TRAILER!!!!

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

JLA Come to Austin Pleeeease! :D

This is old news for those of you who have been following the YA Sisterhood, but...

WE LOVE JENNIFER. L. ARMENTROUT!

And for the OPAL Tour, Entangled is running a contest to let the readers decide where the Release Party should be. And we think it should be in Austin, TX! There are so many reasons-- for one, Austin is a great book town and there are so many bloggers here! And there are EVEN MORE Bloggers across Texas who might be able to travel for the event since Austin is centrally located. Austin is also a great town-- good food, good music, good people. AND... JLA hasn't been to Texas yet, and we're all DYING to meet her. If that spiel wasn't enough to convince you, perhaps this video will.

WARNING: We are technologically deficient, but we did the best we could. No Daemons were harmed in the making of this video.

Also, thanks to Ana for your assistance! :)

If you think that the OPAL Release Party should be in Austin, post on your blog too (and then let Entangled and JLA know)! Tweet about it to Entangled! Spread the word to every one you know!

DEITY by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Deity by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Reviewed by: Baby Sister Brittany
The Sisters Say: Delicious. Delightful. TO DIE FOR.

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.
If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.
Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH MMMMYYYY LLLLOOOORRRRDDDDD…… Deity.

I’ll try to keep this review spoiler-free. But that means it may be a whole lot of what you see above. J

I received an ARC of Deity at ALA Annual. I received so many amazing ARCS that week courtesy of so many amazing publishers, but the very first ARC I picked up to read was DEITY.

And do you know what?

BEST. CHOICE. EVER.

I am in awe of this book and of Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Those of you who have been around the blog for a while, know our love for JLA. We adore each of Jennifer’s books. But DEITY might be the best one of them all!

This book has everything you could possibly want—romance, action, suspense, and some killer plot twists. And beyond that—Jenn has a gift for writing compelling and interesting characters that we can’t help but adore.

Alex is as awesome as always—witty and strong and passionate. And in this book—she’s dealing with some pretty heavy things, namely the prospect of Awakening and what that means for her. Will she lose her own identity and will? Can she trust her own emotions about Seth or is that a by-product of the bond? She’s dealing with the fallout from that certain death in PURE, and there’s the entire situation with Aiden. Girl has got A LOT going on. It’s so fascinating to watch the way she handles these complex situations. Sometimes she’s her normal, bad A self. Other times there’s a vulnerability that we haven’t gotten to see from her very much so far.

I feel like DEITY is a book of breaking points.

There’s so much tension in this series—both relationship and plot based. And in Deity—several things (ahhh… soo vague :D) reach that point where they cannot be ignored any longer. They must be dealt with. And that sets events in motion that will keep your eyes glued to this book until it’s over.

So many HUGE things happen in this book that there is definitely NO GOING BACK. Not for Alex. Not for Aiden. Not for Seth. Not for any Pures or Halfbloods.

Seriously.

There’s no other way to tell you how epic this book is except to say that EVERYTHING CHANGES.

JLA is definitely not resting on her laurels with this one. She doesn’t pull any punches. There are twists and emotional upheavals and moments that will make you scream (in excitement, fear, and surprise—sometimes all three at once).

One of my favorite things about this book (besides Alex, Aiden, and Seth) was that we get to know the gods so much more in this installment. I won’t tell you which gods we get to meet, but there are several, and each one is pretty freaking awesome.

Like I said earlier—JLA is a master of tension, especially of the sexual variety. And this book is no exception. And just when you think you’re going to get a break, something crazy happens that ratchets up the tension even more.

I was on the edge of my seat for this book, and when I wasn’t reading, it was all I could think about.

I’m struggling to further express my love for this book without giving any spoilers away.

So I’ll leave with a couple bold, but vague statements.

1. DEITY IS THE BEST JLA BOOK SO FAR! Yep. I said it. I LOVED IT THAT MUCH.

2. DEITY IS THE BEST BOOK I’VE READ IN MONTHS. POSSIBLY ALL YEAR.

3. DEITY HAS A TWIST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BOOK THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND. I’M TALKING EPIC PROPORTIONS HERE.

4. DEITY HAS SEXY TIMES. (that’s all I’m saying about that. I know some of you are like WHAT? Sexy times and it’s NUMBER FOUR on your list? :D )

5. OBVIOUSLY, WE’RE ONLY ON BOOK THREE OF THIS SERIES, BUT I’M GOING TO GO OUT ON A LIMB AND SAY IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE MY NEW FAVORITE SERIES, SECOND ONLY TO HARRY POTTER, WHICH IS MORE LIKE A LIFESTYLE ANYWAY.

Have I convinced you yet? Are you salivating over this book? Screaming because you don’t have it?

Good. :D

Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books are best served with a side of tension anyway.

Who else is dying for this book?!?!?!  I know I can barely contain myself!  I am still floored by the amazingness that was ONYX!  If you just crawled out from under a rock and haven't read this series, then I IMPLORE you to do so immediately!  You will honestly never be the same, and you like the rest of us, will become slightly obsessed with Jennifer L. Armentrout!  Plus, it doesn't hurt that Pepe and Stella are just so dang gorgeous!!!  So let's celebrate this cover reveal and the awesomeness of JLA by just staring at this cover all day!!!

Holy gods and aliens Batman!!! The finale is here, and it is BRUTAL!!! I'm completely torn as to whom to chose, one of the best heroines of all time or one of the hottest crushes in all YA bookdom!  If you haven't read either of these series, then for shame for shame!  You need to rectify that immediately!  All of Jennifer L. Armentrout's books are blow-me-away, wonderful!  Trust me you will never regret reading one of her books!  For those of you who haven't read one or both or just need a refresher, here are some short little bios.

Alexandria, Alex for short, the protagonist of the Covenant series, was born a Half-Blood but finds out that she is actually the 2nd of 2 Apollyons.  In modern day history there has never been 2 Apollyons, so she is extremely rare.  And as legend says, 2 apollyons does not bode well for the Covenant.  Alex has bravely faced every challenge that has been tossed her way, some so harrowing that even the greatest of mythological heroes would have turned back.  She is caught in a love triangle of epic proportions between Seth and Aiden in which many of JLA's readers would gladly take her place!

Daemon is from JLA's Lux series.  He's a triplet along with Dee and Dawson.  Not only does Daemon happen to be an alien, but he is possibly the most powerful of all the aliens, and there is an evil group of aliens out to steal his powers.  He's snarky, rude, uncommonly gorgeous, and has wall up around his heart the size of The Great Wall of China.  Katy manages to start knocking down this great wall slowly but surely, but even with Daemon's wall crumbling, their love is still forbidden.  The ulitmate of all bad boy boyfriends and a forbidden romance pretty makes this alien irresistable!

So after all that, best of luck in your decision on who should be crowned our favorite Jennifer L. Armentrout character!  Let the pain begin!

Jennifer L. ArmenTOURNEY Match #11 & #13

**click on the pic above to visit other Pure Blog Tour stops**

And the winners are...

Alex and Daemon!

(Should be an interesting finale, huh, guys? Bad@$$ Heroine vs. Bad Boy love interest. Whose side will you be on?)

Matches will open at 12:01AM on April 7th and close at 8PM CST on April 9th. We are not having advocates in this tournament, so all of you feel free to rally the troups and support your characters in the comments. Remember above all that this tournament is to celebrate ALL of Jennifer's characters. **The winner of these matches will face the other in the Ulitmate Covenant vs Lux Showdown next week!**

Match #11:  Alex (Seed #2) vs Seth (Seed #3)

Okay, here we go!  Let's find out who is going to rule this match between the two Apollyons!  Both are worthy, both are powerful, and both are so fan-freakin'-tastic!  As you probably know, Alex and Seth are both from JLA's Covenant Series.  Alexandria, Alex for short, the protagonist of the series, was born a Half-Blood but finds out that she is actually the 2nd of 2 Apollyons.

Seth is the uber-strong Apollyon who is able to control the four elements:  earth, wind, water, and fire.  But, he doesn't stop there--he is the only one who can control a fifth element--akasha, which can only be described as a lightning bolt coming from his oh-so-masculine hands.  He is arrogant to a fault, and as a result, he thinks he's, we'll say Zeus's gift, to all women.  Because Alex will end up being the 2nd Apollyon, Seth has a very strong connection to her--both physical and emotional.  He's tempermental, saucy, and has the kind of charm that radiates sexiness.  If Seth were in our world--he'd be the oh-so-sexy guy who told your parents that "My girl doesn't have a curfew," and then with a tough "vroom," you'd jump on the back of his motorcyle and take off (fearing exactly what your parents were going to say when you returned).  In the coming novels, I have a feeling everything between Alex and Seth is about to explode into all out chaos, the good or the bad kind is yet to be determined!  Good luck chosing who should win, but these girl's right here, have no idea!!!

*VOTING IS NOW CLOSED*
Match #13: Daemon (Seed #1) vs Dee (Seed #3)

Daemon and Dee, the siblings that we have all come to love so dearly!  All the girls want Dee for their best friend and Daemon for their boyfriend!  This is going to be one painful match!  If you don't know who Daemon and Dee are, here's a little info on them.  both represent JLA's Lux Series.  Both are uncommonly good looking aliens that have all kinds of awesome powers.  All of the aliens from this series are born into triplets including, Daemon, Dawson and Dee are one set of triplets.  Daemon out of all the aliens on earth is currently the most powerful.  He comes across as harsh and mean, but it's only to protect his family.  He is Katy's love interest in Obsidian even though he never wanted to be involved with a human.  It's the ultimate of all forbidden romances, that will make you fall hard for this hero!  Oh yeah, and did we mention he is super, extraordinarily, swoon-worthy!

Dee immediately befriends Katy, and soon becomes her best friend, despite Daemon's futile attempts to pull them apart.  Dee is in an on-again, off-again relationship with Adam, one of the Lux who seems to be more tolerable towards humans.  She is by far the friendliest of all the Lux, and she whole-heartedly defends Katy to all the other Lux.  She's beautiful and has a fantastic sense of fashion.  Dee's the girl that you want to be your college roomate, your maid of honor and your wedding, and the one beside you if you ever get mugged!  We love both Daemon and Dee so much and hate to see either of them go, so we wish you the best of luck in your voting decision!

Jennifer L. ArmenTOURNEY Match #10 & #12

Seth and Dee

Let's have fun, cheer on our favorite characters, and show Jennifer how much we love her!

Match #10: Seth (Seed #3) vs Caleb (Seed #4)

Seth and Caleb are both from the Covenant Series.

Caleb is Alex's best friend, and he is the one who welcomes her with open arms after her return to the Covenant.  He is always there to pull Alex away before she makes a huge mistake by punching Lea straight in the face.  Whenever Alex has a problem, she confides in Caleb--she even admits her desire for a relationship with Aiden to him.  Caleb is fiercely loyal, and even when Alex does the risky and unthinkable, he shows up to lend his support or fighting skills--whichever is needed at the time.

Match #12:  Dee (Seed #3) vs Dawson (Seed #4)

Dee and Dawson are both from the Lux Series.  Dee is a Luxen and Daemon and Dawson's sister.  These three seem to have quite a bit in common, as they all form bonds with humans.

Dawson is the other triplet to Dee and Daemon.  Dawson like his brother and sister is a Luxen or alien.  Where as Daemon is the broken, bad boy, Dawson is the sweet, attentive boy.  He meets Bethany, a human girl, at school and a whirlwind romance ensues.  He is powerful like all the other Luxen and is not afraid to fight to the death for those he loves.

Jennifer L. ArmenTOURNEY Match #9 & #11

And the winners are:

Alex and Daemon

Matches will open at 12:01AM on April 1st and close at 8PM CST on the 3rd. We are not having advocates in this tournament, so all of you feel free to rally the troups and support your characters in the comments. Remember above all that this tournament is to celebrate ALL of Jennifer's characters. If there is any slandering, character bashing, cursing, or anything else we deem inappropriate, we reserve the right to delete your comment. Let's have fun, cheer on our favorite characters, and show Jennifer how much we love her!

Match #9: Aiden vs Alex

This is a painful one, folks. Both of these characters hail from The Covenant Series.  Aiden has been forced to grow up quickly as his parents were killed by daimons.  Because of this, he is now responsible for his younger brother Deacon.  He has also taken on the responsibility of training Alex to become a sentinel.  Aiden and Alex are the main love interest in the story, but share a forbidden romance as it is illegal for Pures and Half-Bloods to be together. Alex is the strong, witty, and wonderfully sarcastic protagonist who has captured Aiden's heart. Alex, too, has had a difficult life-- losing her mother to a Daimon attack, and only narrowly surviving herself. These two characters make the series what it is... and they are both major reasons as to why we love this book. We don't know how you'll choose between them. But it boils down to this-- Kick-butt heroine vs. Sexy love interest. Who will you choose?

Match #11:  Daemon vs Katy

And the pain doesn't stop, ladies and gentlemen. Daemon and Katy both represent JLA's Lux Series.  Daemon is a gorgeous alien that has all kinds of awesome powers.  Daemon out of all the aliens on earth is currently the most powerful.  He comes across as harsh and mean, but it's only to protect his family. He's that guarded, bad boy that everyone loves to love and hate and then love some more.  He is Katy's love interest in Obsidian. Despite the fact that Daemon sort of despises humans, Katy catches his eye. She's a quirky bibliophile who speaks her mind and is caring and kind. She stands out in a world where pretty barbie types are constantly throwing themselves at Daemon. Katy is real-- and that's what makes her such a fascinating character! So who will it be-- fiercely human Katy or fiercely sexy non-human Daemon?

Jennifer L. ArmenTOURNEY Match 4 & Match 8

**click on the pic above to visit other Pure Blog Tour stops**

And the Winners are

Caleb and Dawson

Matches will open at 12:01AM on March 29th and close at 8PM CST on the 31st. Let's have fun, cheer on our favorite characters, and show Jennifer how much we love her!

Match #4: Caleb (Seed #4) vs Deacon (Seed #5)

Caleb and Deacon are from the Covenant Series. Deacon is Aiden's swoon-worthy little brother.  He puts up a shield to keep himself from getting hurt, most of the time hiding behind alcohol--a defense mechanism because of his parents' deaths.  He is handsome and good with the ladies, but he also seems very sympathetic, lending his arm and ear to Alex on more than one occasion.  We haven't seen much from Deacon so far, but we would definitely not be opposed to learning more in the future!

March # 8: Dawson (Seed #4) vs Bethany (Seed #5)

I know, I know, I know! This match is cruel and unusual punishment!  It shouldn't be allowed to happen, but alas, the tournament must go on!  Dawson's and Bethany's story is told in the prequel to Obsidian, Shadows. Bethany is new to school and has come to West Virginia with her family to help with her sick uncle.  She is a very talented artist.  After, she discovers what Dawson is, she doesn't freak out and run away. She loves him for who not what he is.  Dawson's and Bethany's love is that of legends, stronger even than death.

Match #3:  Seth(Seed #3) vs Marcus(Seed #6)
A Little Bio:

Seth and Marcus are both from the Covenant Series. Marcus is Alex's uncle who now holds the job of Dean of Students at the Covenant school.  At first, he threatens to place Alex into servitude, but is talked out of that decision by Aiden, Leon, and Laadan.  While he comes off as the "bad guy" in many of his encounters with Alex, deep down you can see that he cares.

Match #7:  Dee(Seed #3) vs Ashley(Seed #6)
A Little Bio:

Dee and Ashley are both from the Lux Series.  Dee is a Lux and Daemon and Dawson's sister.  These three seem to have quite a bit in common, as they all form bonds with humans. Ashley, on the other hand, is one of the more hateful Lux.  She is the sister of Andrew and Adam, and she despises humans, especially Katy.  At one point, she dated Daemon, and even though that is long over, she still flirts and seems very possessive over him.

Match #2:  Alex(Seed #2) vs Lea(Seed #7)

A little bio:
Alex and Lea are both from JLA's Covenant series.  Alexandria, Alex for short, the protagonist of the series, was born a Half-Blood but finds out that she is actually 1 of 2 Apollyons. Alex is facing down her arch-nemesis, Lea, who happens to know exactly how to push Alex's buttons.  Lea, like Alex, is a half-blood.  Lea's parents are killed tragically in HB, and the events surrounding those murders are linked to Alex, making their relationship even more volatile.  Lea is also known for her beauty and definitely is not lacking in any fighting skills. Even though Alex and Lea seem to be at odds most of the time, they do have some common ground that we are just starting to see as we dig deeper into the series.

Match #6:  Katy(Seed #2) vs Andrew(Seed #7)

Katy and Andrew are both characters in JLA's Lux series.  Katy, the protagonist, is a book blogger (woo-hoo) and moves next door to Daemon and Dee at the beginning of Obsidian.  Her and Daimon quickly strike up a very tense love/hate relationship with a little more of the hate used to hide the love.  It is flooked down upon for the Lux (aliens) to have realtionships with humans, but that doesn't stop Katy.  Even though Katy has no powers of her own, she in no means lacks for bravery.  She does her fair share of kicking butt and saving lives!  She is snarky and doesn't let anyone run over her. Dee quickly becomes her best friend giving her an even stronger tie to the Lux.  Andrew on the other hand, the stereotypical Lux.  He was born as a triplet with Andrew, Ashley and Adam making up the three.  Like all Lux, he is very good looking.  He is also proud, powerful, and very prejudice against humans.  He makes his feelings very evident that he does not agree with the relationshiops that Dawson, Daimon and Dee have with humans.  We don't know much about Andrew yet, but I'm sure there is more to come from him in Onyx.

Review and Giveaway: Shadows by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Shadows by Jennifer L. Armentrout
A Lux Novella from Entangled Teen
Release Date: 2/21/12
The Sisters Say: Exciting, Endearing, Extraterrestrial

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.

Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence...and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

I imagine some of you might be a bit tired of all our fan-girling over Jennifer Armentrout. There's only so many ways we can order/entice/bribe/beg you to read her work (all of it, seriously, every single bit) before we start to repeat ourselves. So, from now on, for everyone's sake, you should just all assume that every mention of Jennifer on our blog comes in that shrieky-higher-pitched-than-a-dolphin-fan-girl-squee.

Now that that's all taken care of... let's talk Shadows.

Shadows is a novella, technically a prequel to Obsidian (see our former squee-filled review here). It has the same great world building featuring the Luxen-- not the little green aliens, but aliens whose true forms manifest in beautiful, awe-inspiring forms of light. Of course, like all alien stories, it is imperative that humans know nothing about their existence.

This has never been much of a problem for Dawson. Like his brother Daemon, he interacts with humans, but has never gotten too close to any of them. Unlike his brother and some other Luxen, he doesn't have any disdain for humans, just not a great deal of interest. That all changes when he meets Bethany.

The new girl catches his eye in a way no other girl has. The closer he gets to her, the more that fascination grows. And in one of my favorite scenes of the entire book, he accidentally lets the cat out of the bag about his alien status. I leave the way that happens a surprise. Trust me, you'll enjoy it.

Dawson is quite different than his brother Daemon. He's a bit more thoughtful, quiet, and caring. You'll fall in love with him, and be grateful for the insight his character provides with regards to his brother. That has to be one of my favorite things about this book--getting more background info about other characters, and knowing what will happen to them in the future. This novella is ripe with foreshadowing for Obsidian.

Like all of Jennifer's work-- Shadows has a heart-thumping, mind-numbing, skin-shivering romance. But more than that... it will also pull on your heartstrings. And if you're like me.... it will leave you formulating theories for the continuation of this series!

This novella is not without it's issues-- it bothered me a little that we never got to see Bethany make any friendships besides with Dawson. I think the alternating POV's between Bethany, Dawson, and Daemon kept us from connecting with each individual characters as well as we would have if it had been a bit more focused.

That being said-- this is a novella-- meant to whet our appetites (though at a whopping 170-something pages, it's definitely the most deliciously long novella I've ever read). And it certainly does that! Fans of Jennifer Armentrout will cheer for this intriguing addition to the series!

Now that I've gushed for a little while, as part of our week long BLOGOVERSARY celebration, we're offering an eBook copy of  SHADOWS (Nook or Kindle)! Just fill out the rafflecopter form below!

Also, leave us a comment an let us know-- which is your favorite kind of book boyfriend: Sweet, thoughtful, and charming like Dawson? Or Sarcastic, Dangerous, and Sinfully Sexy like Daemon?

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Reviewed by: Baby Sister Brittany
Release date: 12/6/2011
The Sisters say: Sexy, Sarcastic, and So SO good!

Before I start this review, I just have to take a moment to say how much I love Jennifer Armentrout! She burst onto the scene this year with Half-Blood. In all, I've read three of her books so far, and I am blown away! Seriously, she's earned herself a fan for life, and she's definitely one to watch! Also, this book comes from a new press-- Entangled Publishing. I've read two of their books so far, and I must say that I am impressed. I will definitely be reading more books from them in the future.

Alright... now let's get down (and erm... dirty?) with Obsidian.

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

At first, I was a little questionable about this book. I mean... it's about Aliens. Not that Aliens are necessarily bad, but I've just never read an Alien story that truly grabbed me. I had high hopes for I AM NUMBER FOUR, but honestly, found it to be lacking.

This book was everything I had hoped Number Four would be, but wasn't! The Alien backstory wasn't cheesy or distracting in the least. And unlike Number Four, Obsidian had the characters, relationships, voice, and pacing to make it a successful, exciting read. It didn't just rely on action scenes (though there was plenty of action). *Imagines Daemon saying, "That's what she said."*

Katy, the main character, is a book blogger. Perhaps, I'm biased, but I thought that brought a really unique aspect to her character that we don't see very often! She's strong-willed and sassy, but with an underlying vulnerability that lends her a real sense of believability as a character. I think Katy makes a fantastic heroine, too. When she discovers the truth about Daemon and his sister, she takes it all in stride. In most books like this, I feel like the female MC discovers the paranormal secret and the danger that is inevitably attached, and then allows themselves to become the damsel-in-distress. Sure it usually requires a bit of bravery to stick around that danger, but that's it. This was not the case with Katy at all. I don't want to give any spoilers away, but she's no damsel-in-distress, I'll say that.

I don't mean to gush, but Daemon is pretty amazing, too. I know that a cute boy doesn't make a book successful, but it certainly doesn't hurt, am I right? Daemon is full of contradictions-- which is what makes him so interesting! He's egotistical, but often plays the silent hero, helping without seeking attention. On the outside, he has the emotional equivalent of brick wall, but you definitely get a sense of the sorrow, loss, and anger that has driven him to that point. He's tough, angry, and at times, downright scary. And yet, he has the most tender, innocent, and dare I say it, CUTE relationship with his sister. It makes him seem both older and younger than he actually is, at the same time.

And lastly, the plot and pacing of this book was exciting and unique, and will make you continue to turn the pages long after you promised yourself you were going to go to bed! The humor that I think characterizes Jennifer's writing, along with the action, keeps the book moving at a steady pace. Even on a second read, I never felt like there was a lull in the story. (Yes, I said second read. Once just wasn't enough).

So in conclusion, I need you to do three things.

1. Go Buy Obsidian.

2. Love it.

3. Love Jennifer L. Armentrout and buy everything she writes forever and ever, amen.

That's all. Pretty simple, huh? :)

And the winner is...

Katniss!

Secondly, You are welcome to write your own comments about either character in the comments section, but we will not tolerate rudeness. The minute it crosses over from logical argument into character bashing, your comments will be deleted and your vote canceled.  POLLS WILL BE OPEN FOR 24 HOURS AND WILL CLOSE AT 12:01AM EST ON DECEMBER 31st.

And now for the match....

My name is Penelope, and I run the book review blog: The Reading Fever. I am honored to be Katniss’ advocate, and will be blogging and tweeting about Katniss’ progress throughout the tournament. You can follow me using the links below for #TeamKatniss updates.

It's a #TKBLACKOUT!

1. About Katniss
The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames. I am the Mockingjay. The one that survived despite the Capitol's plans. The symbol of the rebellion.

-Katniss, Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (pg. 386-387)
Credit: Entertainment Weekly
Katniss is the main character in The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. She is described as having long, straight black hair, which she usually pulls back into a tight braid. She has olive skin and gray eyes. She is an amazing hunter who has deadly aim with a bow, and has been using these skills to put food on her family's table--keeping them from the starvation that is so widespread in their district.

She is fiercely protective of those she loves, and has proven she will go to any lengths to ensure their safety. Not one to be easily swayed or broken, she proves to the Capitol that no matter their methods, they can't control everyone.

Also known as: Catnip, the Mockingjay, and The Girl On Fire.

2. Best Attributes
A mockingjay is a creature the capitol never intended to exist. They hadn’t counted on the highly controlled jabberjay having the brains to adapt to the wild...They hadn’t anticipated its will to live.

-Katniss, Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (pg. 92)
As tempting as it is to name Katniss' hunting skills and her innate sense of survival as her best attributes, that just wouldn't be completely true. Everything Katniss does in the series can be attributed to one of these: love, compassion, fear.

Her first act--entering the Hunger Games in place of her younger sister, Prim--was done out of her incredible love for Prim, and fear for Prim's safety. She is pushed to survive by fear of dying and leaving her family without a provider; called into action by compassion for Rue and Peeta (competitors in the hunger games); compelled to accept the title of The Mockingjay (symbol of the rebellion) by compassion for those enduring the destruction the Capitol brings. She takes what the world gives her and reacts to it in a way that benefits those around her; letting love, compassion, and fear guide her. These are her best attributes.

3. What makes Katniss a true heroine?
I’m moving in toward the camera now, carried forward by my rage. “President Snow says he’s sending us a message? Well, I have one for him. You can torture us and bomb us and burn our districts to the ground, but do you see that?” One of the cameras follows as I point to the planes burning on the roof of the warehouse across from us. The Capitol seal on a wing glows clearly through the flames. “Fire is catching!” I am shouting now, determined that he will not miss a word. “And if we burn, you burn with us!”

-Katniss, Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (pg. 99-100)
The quote above is from Katniss. At this point in the story, Katniss has already been through the hunger games, has witnessed the pain, torture, and death, of loved ones, has been forced to kill, seen her home destroyed, and has witnessed the extreme lengths the Capitol will go to in order to have total control--and yet these things only empower her to act.

To me a true heroine is someone who rises above her circumstances, who keeps going despite being knocked down, and most importantly: a heroine inspires others to keep going as well. Katniss is a true heroine.

4. Why should you vote for Katniss instead of Alex?

*PLOT SPOILERS AHEAD*

Why wouldn’t you vote for the Mockingjay? She is the driving force behind the entire rebellion; the very hope of the oppressed; the one who brought an end to the devastating war.

So she doesn't exactly have a winning attitude. We can't all be perky and upbeat. She's only human, and would like nothing more than to be left in peace with her family for the rest of her life. But life rarely goes in the direction we hope, and when Katniss is forced down the path that leads to her becoming the Mockingjay, she accepts the title with respect, and recognizes the honor in being the Mockingjay.

It takes stamina and determination to be a symbol to the oppressed. It takes knowledge, cunning, and good instincts, to make good on the hope such a position gives to others. After a while, Katniss sees that she can no longer be a mere symbol; when an opportunity comes, she bravely takes matters into her own hands, risking her life--and sadly, losing some friends--to carry out the plans to bring an end to the war. And she succeeds.

*END PLOT SPOILERS*

Because when it comes down to it, Katniss comes through. Whether her plan is legit, risky, or completely crazy, you can bet she knows what she's doing, and that she will come through for you.

So I ask again: Why wouldn't you vote for the Mockingjay?

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

My name's Momo and I'm the blogger behind Books Over Boys. I got the honor of being the advocate for the awesome Alexandria Andros from Jennifer L. Armentrout's Covenant series for this tournament. You can connect with me via twitter and facebook to stay up to date with the #HalfBloodLegion as we support our girl, Alex!

About Alex Andros:

First off, according to Aiden, this is what he thought of Alex when he first saw her...after those three years:
Long, thick chestnut colored hair fell past a chest that had grown in the last three years. Her face was oval shape; lips full like a pure-blood’s. Cheekbones high and eyebrows delicately arched over two wide, brown eyes. Even with the faint purplish bruises marring an otherwise flawless complexion, she was… unbelievable.

Beautiful.
And in Alex's own words:
With all the dirt and overall grossness gone, I looked just like my mom. Long dark hair fell down my back; I had those high cheekbones and full lips most pures did. I was a bit curvier than Mom's willowy frame and I didn't have her amazing eyes. Mine were brown, homely old brown.
Alex is irrational, unstable, out of control, wild, crazy, rash, and stubborn but that makes her everything that she is, which is a fighter. She is unpredictable and very quick to act but she believes strongly in what is right versus what is wrong. She hardly ever lets anything faze her and that makes her high lariously funny. She says the darnest things at the most inappropriate times, lol, but what's life without some humor? She's uber sarcastic and tough and edgy and all-out fierce. She lives in this world where all that matters are the pures and their safety. She doesn't want to be forced into servitude so she is in the process of training to be a Sentinel - one who fights and kills daimons → the scary, looking things that will suck the life out of you. Alex isn't a fighter just physically, but she's also a fighter internally...if you get what I mean. She won't take anyone's B. S and she won't ever give up, you can count on that. Plus, Aiden said this ↓ ↓ ↓ about Alex's...qualities that I had listed above:
...I always thought your irrational nature was a flaw. It's not. It's what makes you so strong.
*nods* Uh-huh, what he said.

Alex's Best Attributes:

Alex stands out to me among all the other female characters because she's funny. I know, anyone can be funny. Okay, not anyone but it doesn't take a mad scientist to crack a joke here and there. Alex is such a smart mouth; she speaks without thinking and that totally comes with its consequences, haha, but you can't help but think, "Omg, I was so thinking that!" She says stuff that you wouldn't say out loud or stuff that you would bite back. She's definitely hard to forget because she has such a character; that's why when the nominations for this tourney began, Alex immediately came to mind. You won't be able to forget her if you tried. Also, she stands out to me because she can definitely hold her own. She'll take things into her own hands when needed; she won't back down and she indubitably won't take no for an answer. Alex is rebellious and at times, that might sound like a bad thing but like I've mentioned, she believes in what's right and if a little rebellious-ness is needed, where's the harm in that?!

What makes Alex a true heroine?

As defined by...dictionary dot com, a heroine is:

  1. a woman of distinguished courage or ability, admired for her brave deeds and noble qualities.
  2. the principal female character in a story, play, film, etc.
In my opinion, a true heroine is someone who isn't afraid to be heard, someone who speaks up and fights back when they see something that is unjust; someone who isn't afraid to dive head first into a difficult situation. Also, a true heroine is courageous and brave and strong; someone who will step up when needed. And according to that, Alex is all of the above. Alex is a fighter, she's resilient and always bounces back after a horrible tragedy occurs. Like they say, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Because of what she's been through, it has shaped her into the kind of character that she is. You can count on her to save your butt whenever you're in a dire situation, that's for sure. Alex is a true heroine to me because she doesn't need a man to get her out of a ditch when she falls into one. She'll tire out all possible chances of saving herself before she'll resort to a man. Did I forget to mention that Alex can stab stuff? Oh yes, absolutely! She's a feisty little thing! Heck, she don't need no dagger or blade, she'll take you down with a garden spade! (OH WHAT?! That rhymed right there! I'm a genius! ;))

Why should we vote for Alex instead of Katniss?

Alex and Katniss are both survivors. They do what it takes to survive and get the eff outta...whatever horrible situation they are in. I mean, Katniss is the queen when it comes to a bow and arrow and Alex is a straight up boss when it comes to daggers so I wouldn't want to mess with either one of them because I don't even have to be in close proximity for them to harm me.

You should vote for Alex instead of Katniss because Alex was born a fighter. She was born into a world where having a tough skin was necessary. Alex is fierce, stable, strong-willed and her determination will never waver. Strip Alex of everything she has, and she will still fight to the death if it means that she will survive. I mean, that's basically Survival Skills 101. ;)

Alex has so much potential to be the top heroine of the whole tournament. Half-Blood has only been out in the world for two months and twelve days and already, any bookworm who has picked up a copy has immediately fallen in love with Alex's character and that's not for nothing. As we follow her throughout the series, I believe she will rise and be one of the most top-notch, butt kickin' heroine ever because she has what it takes to go over and beyond it all to survive.

Vote for Alex because....well, basically because I'm telling you too. What else?! Oh and because Alex is like...the underdog of all underdogs!

Anything else you'd like to add?

Now you know the #HalfBloodLegion went wild with their incentives last time and well...we're bringing it ten times more for this round because our passion for our gal, Alex, is just a fierce, burning fire (ha, that made me laugh a bit) that we can't seem to put out. Some might think this has come down to a bribery sort of thing instead for the character herself, but once someone is ignited with passion, you can't stop 'em. ;) If you haven't read Half-Blood...well then, you've kind of, sort of been deprived. I'm just sayin'. For this round, the brilliant JLA has offered up:

250 votes: a teaser from Pure
500 votes: a teaser from Onyx
