The winner of Match #10 is Tristan!

Hey! I'm Val from StuckInBooks.  My blog is mostly YA, NA with a little adult thrown in.  I love urban fantasy the most.  Sometimes when you read a lot of books, you find an author that doesn't get the attention that you think they should.  That's my thing with M.R. Merrick and his series, The Protector.  That's why I'm advocating for Chase Riley Williams.

Bradley James as Chase

Let me introduce you to Chase.

Blond with dark blue eyes

Has a fighter body and knows how to use it

Turning 18 at the beginning of Exiled

Demon hunter

Kicked out of the circle on his 15th birthday for not coming into his elemental power

Pursued by demons of the underworld

Any demon gunning for him better have back-up cause he's damn good

Head strong

Jumps before he looks

Doesn't really do well with being told what to do

He loves french toast

Determined

Snarky

Has a lot to learn

Over the series he learns it

What I love about Chase is that he really is a typical snarky eighteen year old boy that over the course of the series turns into a powerful demon hunter who doesn't drink the kool-aid but can think for himself.  Let me give you a favorite scene so you can learn more about him.

EXCERPT

Bones crunched and Rayna's arms snapped, reversing which way they bent.  She tumbled off the bed and clawed at the floor near my feet.  Muscles flexed and strained, scarring the hardwood.  Splinters slid underneath her nails, causing her fingers to bleed.

"Please..." Rayna gasped.  She slurred her words as fangs jutted from red gums raw with pain.  She winced in agony and her eyes pleaded, letting a single tear trickle down her cheek.

"How do we stop it, Marcus?"

Marcus shook his head.  "We can't. She has to fight it."

"We have to do something.  It's killing her."

"This is the only way I know..."

I looked at Tiki and worry owned his face.  White, triangular pupils expanded over solid, orange eyes, and he flinched at the sound of Rayna's bones grinding together.  His frame filled the doorway, muscles flexing beneath the caramel flesh of his shirtless body.  Messy, black hair hung in his eyes and he continually brushed it away.

Willy's face was pale for an instant, quickly changing to match the bright red paint on Rayna's walls.  His chameleon skin flickered back and forth between colors as panic filled his eyes.  Blood and clear fluid dripped from his face, but he didn't seem to notice.  He was frozen in fear, watching his friend's body break and change before him.  This is was the first shift Willy had been here for.  I didn't think he was quite ready for it.

Frustration won me over and I dropped to the floor, hoping the claws didn't strike me again.  I laid my hands over Rayna's body and called my magic back.

"Chase, don't.  You could do more damage than good," Marcus said.

I shot dark blue eyes to Marcus.  "You know as well as I do, nothing I can do is worse than this, so back off!"  I didn't expect for it to come across so harsh, but I didn't have time to worry about his feelings.  I wasn't about to lose someone else.

The invisible hand inside me wrapped around the cool rush of my element and tugged it back to the surface.  I pulled the wash of water from my soul and let if fill my body.  The magic shuddered and the liquid moved under my skin as power prickled through me, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.

"Chase, don't," Marcus said.

"I'm trying!" I yelled, quickly reeling my anger back and letting the element calm me.  "It's a lot more than any of us have done for her so far."

Water was a healing and calming element, but it could be as deadly as any other.  Marcus was right to be worried; my control was weak at best, but I couldn't watch this.  Not again.

Magic ran up my body, into my shoulders, and down my arms in a wave of power.  My fingertips tingled as it left me and flowed into Rayna's body.

I focused on calming Rayna.  I didn't want to hurt her, and I wasn't sure healing the wounds would help.  I focused my energy and hoped if I put enough power into sedating the beast, Rayna could regain control.

The moment my magic filled her, Rayna's earth element pushed back against me, trying to intertwine with mine.  It was Rayna's way of reaching out to me.

Our elements met and wrapped themselves in each other, coursing from her body to mine in a circuit of power.  Our bodies were one in that moment, our elements just an extension of ourselves.  My magic moved through her, dancing beneath her skin as it fed off her power.

I imagined a small creek moving over stones, wearing the rough edges down until they were smooth.  That gentle flow of water would push the beast back and carry Rayna to shore.

The beast retreated as the magic splashed through.  Feeling the monster's resistance, I forced it back, letting the energy thrust it into the corner until it surrendered.  I waited until I was sure it was gone before I turned my focus to her injuries.  (From the beginning of book 2, Shift)

Some of the Best Things About Tristan -
One of the #1 things I love about Tristan is that he’s not perfect. This dude is flawed and real. Get that ladies? Tristan could be a guy that you could actually find and fall in love with. (If you are extremely freakin lucky!!)  Trust me, there is no way you aren’t falling head over heels for Tristan. This guy is so funny and witty. He will sweep you into his personality spell and not let you go.

“Well, don't you find it just a little bit twisted that He made a ah...promiscuous reprobate and a chaste ingenue rather perfect for each other, threw them together without warning and then for kicks, He tossed in an inordinate amount of sexual attraction and tension into the mix?  It's like He's created His own warped version of Thunderdome.  I'll bet He's even got Himself a bag of popcorn.” - Tristan, Shark Bait Chapter 24 - God Has A Wicked Sense Of Humor

He does amazing things like; asks a girl out with a quote from her favorite TV show, remembers the song that was playing the first time they kissed (and exactly how long it was), and adopts lost kittens to make them his babies.

Swoon! It’s not often that a guy shows his sentimental side, but this guy has one, and when it comes out I become a puddle of goo at his feet! The whiteboard in his room, the "Wall of Infamy," is a constant source of his humor and his sentimentality!

Tristan’s Mom: What are these?
Tristan: Your granddaughters.
Tristan’s Dad: Don’t worry honey, you don’t look old enough to be a mother let alone a grandmother.
Tristan’s Mom: Again with the flattery, thank you dear. Where did they come from?
Tristan: Camie gave birth last night.
Jeff: I didn’t know she was pregnant.
Tristan: She wasn’t. It was a miracle.
Tristan’s Mom: Do they have names?
Tristan: Phineas and Ferb.
Jeff: From the cartoon?
Tristan’s Dad: That figures, he named the dog Scooby.
Tristan’s Mom: They sound like boy names.
Tristan: Mom! Shhh, you’ll give them a complex.
~Wall of Infamy, Shark Bait - Epilogue

As for his looks, Tristan is…

  • Tall (6'4”)
  • Super Tan
  • Long Light Brown Hair, sun streaked, that lays in a layered mess.
  • Blue Eyed (we are talking cerulean) with thick lashes.
  • Sculpted Powerful Body, but not bulky.
  • Athlete (Surfer, Swimmer, Water Polo, MotoCross, Lifeguard and more!)
"So how cute is he? Are we talking moderately drool worthy or, ‘hey Cujo, you’re foaming at the mouth?’” She asked and straightened the ears on one of the bunny slippers she was wearing.
“Jilly, he’s Taylor Kitsch hot. In fact, he looks just like Taylor Kitsch with light brown hair and blue eyes. I’m not even kidding.”
“Dang, really?”
Let me explain. Taylor Kitsch is the king of my “Hot Guy Island.” And I really wasn’t exaggerating; Tristan actually does look a lot like him. Besides, by using him as an illustration, Jillian can now appreciate how gorgeous Tristan is, too, because I don’t compare normal people to my favorite hot actor. EVER.
“Yeah, really, so don’t go running for the shotgun when you think I have rabies." ~Camie & Jillian, Shark Bait Chapter 5 - That's Real Dedication To The Cause
YUUUMMM!!!!

Basically Tristan is a sexy ass mother, and I want to have his babies.  I'm normally not really good at sharing, but there can never be too many of Tristan's Bitch Slaves, so in this case I'm willing.

SMART AND SEXY - Tristan has the brain to outshine even his body!!  This boy keeps straight As, and he READS - is there anything better than a sexy guy who reads???

He actually got you pressed up against him with his arm around you under the guise of reading a book you both probably have memorized and he did it front of everybody!
~Kate, Shark Bait Chapter 4 - The Events Of Today Pertaining To Tristan Daniels

There are a million things I could tell you to convince you that Tristan is the #1 guy around here, but you don't just have to take my word for it.

WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE #TEAMTRISTAN -
ACCORDING TO THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW HIM BEST.
(Grab Your Pole Series Characters)

“Tristan Daniels is one of the best people I know. My very first kiss was with him and I was so petrified right before it happened that I even blurted out that I’d never kissed anyone before, but instead of laughing at me or making me feel stupid or immature, he put me at ease and gave me a beautiful memory that will last a lifetime. He’s honest and kind, and is always one of the first people to step up to offer his help and support. I treasure our friendship and know that I can count on him in everything.” ~ Melissa Matthews, Friend & Co-captain of Varsity Cheer

“For a teenager, the boy exhibits a great deal of responsibility and respect. His employment status as a California State Beach Lifeguard is a testament to his character of course, but his understanding of mechanics and cars is to be admired also, and the respect he uses in regard to vehicle safety isn’t typical of someone his age in my opinion. I find him to be mature beyond his years and twice he’s more than proven to be the kind of person I wouldn’t hesitate to trust with the safety and lives of my children.” ~ Kevin Ramsey, Father to Camie & Jillian

“In my opinion, as his girlfriend’s sister, Tristan is an incredibly tolerant individual. Although his extensive dealings and vast experience with the female race might suggest otherwise, the relationship between Tristan and my sister is the first of its kind for both of them and I believe the patience and understanding Tristan has exhibited in regard to that to be remarkable, especially taking into account Camie’s lack of being equally educated in boy-girl scenarios and the insecurity that breeds within her. Not only that, but he’s proven extraordinarily devoted to her as well, and his care and concern for her wellbeing is also something that shouldn’t go unnoticed. He makes every effort to ensure she’s his first priority and he does all manner of little things just to make her smile, the big, sentimental doofus.” ~ Jillian, Sister to Camie

“Tristan Daniels is a dick. He fights dirty and we’ve never been friends, but, a little while back he and I went through something where we both had to put our feelings about each other aside in order to help someone else. Like I know he’s a lifeguard and has literally saved lives before, but two times now I’ve witnessed firsthand what he can do for people in a life or death situation and based off those experiences, I can honestly say that when the serious shit goes down, I’d be one lucky son of a bitch to have him get my back. I mean even if he’s a dick, he’s also an honest to God hero and that’s just something that deserves everyone’s respect and recognition, you know?” Zack, Classmate

“I know Tristan better than anyone, including his own mother and best friend. I don’t think people realize the kind of pressure of expectation he lives up to each and every day. Everyone wants to know him in some way; girls love him and guys want to be him. He’s the kind of guy people look up to even if they’re jealous or afraid of him, and although he’s an extremely private person who doesn’t allow many people to get truly close, he’s not above giving people his time or being a mentor to those who hope to learn from him. And I’ll be perfectly frank with you here, he does have a temper and he can be a royal asshole every now and then too, and he’s most definitely arrogant and cocky in some aspects, but he’s not like that without reason and somehow, being that way doesn’t take away from his merits; it only strengthens many of them. But even then, the strength most people see in him is only a fraction of what’s on the inside. He works hard and plays hard, and with a passion that is truly unparalleled. His sense of humor and loyalty to his teammates, friends, and loved ones are two of his attributes that never fail to be seen, his heart can never be questioned by anyone who truly knows him, and there’s no one else on this planet I trust more than him. He was nominated and consistently held a seat in the top seven in all three of the categories he qualified for in this tournament, and speaking as someone who knows him as well as I do and who was also nominated and held a top 10 seat in one of the categories with him, I feel I can say with certainty that the nominating voters got it right. Tristan Daniels rightly deserved his spot in the tournament and honestly, I really believe he deserves to win the whole fuckin’ thing.” ~ Pete, Close Friend & Captain of Varsity Baseball

Let's hear what a few of Tristan's biggest fans have to say about him.

"I love that he is SO much more than he lets on - i.e. there's depth to him that goes beyond how incredibly gorgeous, talented, and awesome he is."  ~ Allura @ Tea Cups & Bookends

"I loved that Tristan was willing to do anything to get Camie. Dating was whole new territory for him, so it was really endearing to see him struggle and reach out to others for help. Also, he’s really freaking hot." ~ Megan @ Reading Books Like a Boss

"I think my favorite thing about Tristan is that he doesn't sugarcoat shit.  He is so real and honest (just like his maker).  He can be a sweetheart when he wants to be and I REALLY found it refreshing to hear his voice in the prologue to Shark Bait (of course I didn't realize that until his confession later in the book).  I think I reread that section a lot.  He was just so taken by Camie...SWOON!" ~NicM001

"To try and sum up in one small quote exactly why I love Tristan Daniels is near impossible. Obviously he's hot, I have a soft spot for boys with dark hair and blue eyes. Can I get a YUM?! I also really love the fact how realistic and imperfect he is. He can be really sweet and loving but he also makes mistakes and that makes it so much easier to relate to him as a person and love him for it. He's sarcastic, hilarious, handsome, and just a fun guy to read about. It was an easy choice to pick my favorite guy for the YA Crush Tourney." ~Kylee @ Babbling of a Bookaholic

Hello! I'm Cassi from the The Galavanting Girl Scout or veela_valoom on twitter. I hope everyone will join me in supporting our favorite Hogwarts student Luna Lovegood in the #HeroineTournament

About Luna Lovegood
We first meet Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix She's describe as "loony" and teased by her classmates. She's got wild blonde hair, a unique sense of style and trademark radish earrings. She's the oddball Ravenclaw who reads the Quibbler, believes in nargles and just doesn't seem to fit anywhere. (And this is a school of wizards, so to be the class freak is kind of a big deal).
She shrugged. "I think they think I'm a bit odd, you know. Some people call me 'Loony' Lovegood, actually."
Best Attributes
Luna is always ALWAYS Luna. She doesn't let anyone change her. Even though she's being teased she never wavers from being herself. Luna is aware that she's the outcast and there are heartbreaking mentions of how she wants friends, but she's not willing change herself to be accepted by other people.
What makes Luna a true heroine?
She's smart, loyal to her friends, loves her father, is unflinchingly honest, stands up for what's right, believes in herself, fights evil...do I even need to continue? She does it ALL. You're unlikely to find a heroine quite as well-rounded as Luna Lovegood. One of the things that impresses me most about Luna is that all the teasing doesn't seem to phase her. She shrugs it off with a smiles. To me that's amazing.
The key to Luna is that she has that unbelievably rare quality of actually not giving a damn what anyone else thinks of her. Now, if we as adults say honestly how many people we've known like that I think very many of us would say uh none! And Luna's like that. She doesn't actually care. She's so comfortable with being different. She's fearless.
-JK Rowling
What makes Luna better than Sophie?
I'm not going to say anything bad about Sophie. Luna wouldn't, and as her representative why should I? I think Luna and Sophie would get along, could be fictional BFFs and Luna wouldn't even care about Sophie's...um...species (if that's even the proper word). What makes Luna better is that she's more comfortable in her own skin than Sophie. Luna is fearless and that is so unbelievably rare even among heroines.
Also I want to say that Luna is the heroine that most teenagers NEED to read. She can give them courage to be themselves. Luna shows that it's okay to be different and eventually no matter how odd, you'll find friends who accept you as you are. That's what stands out about her above ALL the other heroines in the tournament. Luna says "you don't have to fit in," and in a world that seems increasingly plagued by bullying thats an important message. Luna is a message of hope.
Anything else you'd like to add?
I really wish I were more like Luna Lovegood. I also want to include this lovely quote about Luna Lovegood's bedroom. Shows how much she truly loves her friends.
"Luna had decorated her bedroom ceiling with five beautifully painted faces: Harry, Ron, Hermoine, Ginny, and Neville. They were not moving as the portraits at Hogwarts moved, but there was a certain magic about them all the same: Harry thought they breathed. What appeared to be fine golden chains wove around the pictures, linking them together, but after examining them for a minute or so, Harry realized that the chains were actually one word, repeated a thousand times in golden ink: friends...friends...friends."

All About Sophie

Sophie Alice Mercer is the 16-year old, snarky, freckle-faced girl next door type that you NEVER want to mess with! Her brown hair, blue eyes and innocent freckles hide powers that are second to none in all of wizarding history, including in that famous galaxy far, far away!!! That’s right! Even Darth Vader is no match for Sophie Mercer!

But until now (until she turned 16), Sophie “Soo-fee-yuh” has been sheltered her entire life from what she truly is . . . the most powerful witch ever! She’s constantly been moved around the country by her mother, from one school to the next, just because she sometimes (innocently!) exposes her powers to other humans! And then it’s always time to pack up and leave?! Sheesh! How unfair is that?

Yup, the last spell she cast was the last straw; A TOTALLY AWESOME spell at the Senior Prom for the most popular guy at school, making him want to be with the biggest loser at school! And if you haven’t read Hex Hall, then you have got to read the prologue, it’s hilarious! But now she’s done it! With that last, totally wicked spell, she’s been sentenced to Hecate Hall (or as Jenna, her roommate and best friend would say, “Hex Hall”), the school of magical misfits who must be isolated to prevent them from exposing themselves to humans. And that’s where her totally AWESOME powers are developed, along with her crush for two very HOT love interests named Archer and Cal, who, by the way . . . want you all to #VoteTeamSophie!

Why Sophie ROCKS!☆

Snarkiness! Yeah, that may not be a magical power, but it powers her interactions with everyone! And it’s probably what helps make her so fiercely independent and loyal . . . and not easily swayed by the popular (MEAN) girls . . . or even easily discouraged in the face of adversity! It’s also what powers her connection to her other, magical powers!

Speaking of which, those magical powers are second to none! On a scale of 1-10 . . . HELLO!!! . . . her powers rate a solid 100! Here’s just a little of what she can do . . .

The unstoppable Sophie doesn’t need any magical instrument to focus her powers! She only needs to think about what she wants to do and her powers take care of the rest! The only problem? Sometimes her accomplishments are heightened so massively by her powers that she far exceeds her goal! For example, when Sophie’s father tells her to break a mirror, she looks at one and simply thinks “break.” The only problem is that she doesn’t just break one mirror, she breaks EVERY mirror in the room! Another time Sophie and her friends are hanging out in a Prodigium club and “The Eye” (religious killers of all things magical) unexpectedly shows up! But while trying to escape, the crowd is hysterically running around so Sophie thinks in her mind, “Move” and then a force field surrounds herself and her friends, but the force field tramples everyone in their path! And let’s not talk again about that wicked love spell she cast on Kevin Bridges! But the full extent of her true powers always comes out when she’s caught up in the toughest situations . . . and then you REALLY see how powerful she is and what she is capable of . . . AND then you truly know that you never want to mess with her!!!

Photobucket

Why Sophie is MY HERO!☆

Sophie has AWESOME magical abilities. But that’s not what makes Sophie a true heroine. What makes Sophie a true heroine is that she doesn’t think about the dangers to herself while fighting for what she believes in. So, not only does she fight for what’s right (even when abused by the meanest girls in school), but she’ll even go out of her way (and put herself in danger!) to protect and save the mean girls! EVEN if saving them means killing someone very important to her. Yeah, just like the night The Eye swarmed the Prodigium club . . . in the middle of all that pure craziness, when her friends were only thinking about how to get the heck out, Sophie just wanted to help out the rest of the Prodigium. BUT even then, she knew she had to get her friends out first!

Photobucket

Why is Sophie more of a heroine than Luna?☆

All I gotta say is that I LOVE Luna Lovegood! She’s a fiercely trustworthy, loyal friend . . . and she’s courageous too!

But if I needed someone to protect me from Lord Voldemort, I’d pick Sophie EVERY time!! Heck, I think the reason Voldemort tried to kill Harry Potter as a baby in the first place is because he first ran into Sophie as a baby . . . and he wanted NO PART of that!!! Like I said, Sophie is the freckle-faced girl next door you NEVER want to mess with . . . and I guess Lord Voldemort feels the same way!!! Heck, even the Dementors want NO PART of Sophie Mercer!!

☆☆☆#VoteTeamSophie☆☆☆

So there you have it! Obviously Sophie TOTALLY ROCKS!!! And if you want to have Sophie alongside you up against Lord Voldemort…then #VoteTeamSophie NOW!!!

*VOTING IS NOW CLOSED*
