THE WINNER OF MATCH #1 IS PATCH!

Maxon from The Selection by Kiera Cass

First we would like to introduce ourselves. We (Bridget, Emmy, Kayla and Michelle) are so excited to be advocates for the wonderful Prince Maxon from The Selection Series by Kiera Cass. We are all reviewers of YA Fiction for the awesome blog Dark Faeire Tales (darkfaerietales.com). This blog is dedicated to reviewing YA/NA fiction books (primarily paranormal) and spreading the news of upcoming books coming out or making it in the movie world.
Maxon badge
It is custom that whenever the heir to the throne in Illea is a boy, a Selection is held. In this Bachelor-esque competition, 35 girls are chosen to fight for the prince’s heart - and the crown. Prince of Illea, Maxon Schreave, must look for a wife out of the 35 advisor-chosen girls from all kinds of backgrounds. Despite his reluctance and doubt that he would actually find “true love” in this political game, Prince Maxon is pleasantly surprised when an unusual girl steals his heart. Trust us when we say he is definitely a bachelor worth winning.
Personality:
Let’s start off with the easy stuff: Prince Maxon is smart, kind, funny and all the “golden guy” characteristics that every girl swoons for. Now, as cliche as all of that sounds, this is the foundation of Maxon’s personality. But what makes him stand out from every other good guy out there is his deep loyalty, affable/witty banter and compassion. We can always depend on Maxon to lighten the mood with light hearted jokes or sarcastic comment, but the most memorable conversation was Maxon’s bet with America Singer (the reluctant true love). *TINY SPOILER AHEAD* During breakfast with all of the Selected, Maxon bets that the food is so delicious at the castle that America’s sister would shed tears of joy if she tasted it; if he wins then America would have to go on a walk with Maxon, but if he lost, America can wear jeans on the weekends. Even with his funny personality, Maxon is also the most compassionate person in the entire series - and possibly in anything we’ve ever read. He cares when nobody else does and forgives when the king refuses to. Still not convinced to vote for him? Keep on reading.
~~~
“Forgive what? Our stupid fight? It’s already forgotten. Your feelings being a little slower than mine? I’m prepared to wait,” he said with a shrug. “I don’t think there’s anything you could do that I couldn’t forgive. Need I remind you of the knee to my groin?” The Selection pg 321
“It wasn’t like I made his world better. It was like I was his world. It wasn’t some explosion; it wasn’t fireworks. It was a fire, burning slowly from the inside out.” The Elite pg 298
Looks:
Michael Malarkey
He’s swoony. ‘Nuff said. Well since there’s no exact picture of him, you’ll just have to be satisfied with Michael Malarkey. (This picture is the closest we can get since he’s playing Maxon in the CW’s version of The Selection currently in the middle of filming.)
~~~
“His hair was honey colored, and his eyes were brown. He kind of looked like summertime, which I guess was attractive to some people. His hair was cropped short and neatly done, and his grey suit was perfectly fitted to him.” The Selection pg 40
“I had been raised a musician, but I was surrounded by artists. I’d once seen a sculpture that was hundreds of years old of an athlete throwing a disk. I’d thought to myself at the time that only an artist could do that, make someone’s body look so beautiful. Maxon’s chest was as sculpted as any piece of art I’d ever seen.” The Elite pg 284
Talents:
As a prince, one must be a competent diplomat. Maxon has that down pact. He displays wonderful skills in negotiating and leading. Also, if listening could be called a talent, Maxon has it down to a T. There isn’t a single thing America can’t talk to Maxon about (besides their relationship) and even if he doesn’t have any advice, he’s always willing to lend an ear.
~~~
“Maxon’s face was a shallow echo of my own pain. He looked absolutely brokenhearted for me. More than that he looked angry. ‘I’m sorry America. I don’t…’ His face shifted a little ‘Is this a good time to pat your shoulder?’” The Selection pg 196
Attributes:
If you’re still not confident you should vote for Prince Maxon, let’s summarize his best characteristics: compassionate, funny, loyal, smart, diplomatic, handsome... But for one second, let’s drop all pretenses and forget that this is a competition and we’re only supposed to point out all of our boy’s good qualities. But it’s really Maxon’s flaws and negative characteristics that make him stand out above any other.
He can be selfish.
“Honestly? I was trying to give the other girls a sporting chance. From the beginning, I’ve really only looked at you, wanted you.” I blushed. “When you told me how you felt, I was so relieved that a part of me didn’t believe it. I still have a hard time accepting that it was real. You’d be surprised how infrequently I get something I truly want.” The Elite pg 79
He can be naive.
“What have I done to offend you? Did I not just give you the very thing you asked for?” He was genuinely confused by my response. I suppose he expected us to adore him and thank our lucky stars for his existence. The Selection pg 113
He can be utterly frustrating.
He shook his head, irritated, and stood. “Fine.” He walked across the room in quick, angry strides. “I’ll just go see what Kriss is doing.” The Elite pg 244
But it’s how he reacts and pushes on when something bad happens or when he’s wrong that makes this boy the best YA crush we know.
~*~*~*~
And if you won’t take our word for how amazing Prince Maxon is, here’s America’s view:
“And I couldn’t poke fun at him, not when I had a chance to say what I’d really started to think now that he was my friend. I couldn’t joke about the person who’d saved me from facing absolute heartbreak at home, who fed my family boxes of sweets, who ran to me worried that I was hurt if I asked for him... Maxon Schreave is the epitome of all things good. He is going to be a phenomenal king. He lets girls who are supposed to be wearing dresses wear jeans and doesn’t get mad when someone who doesn’t know him clearly mislabels him. Whoever he marries will be a lucky girl. And whatever happens to me, I will be honored to be his subject.”
Patch from Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
Hello all you beautiful people, my name is Danielle from Consuming Worlds and I am here today to talk to you all about this wonderful Angel named Patch Cipriano. If you know the Patch in which I am referring than you already know all the reasons Patch is so yummy and deserves your vote!
If you haven't heard of Patch well then sit back and read along and allow me to tell you--and show you all the reasons that Patch should have your vote for this YA Crush Tourney!!! Shall we begin???
For those who don't know, Patch is from the Hush, Hush Series by Becca Fitzpatrick and let's just say that he brings the saying tall, dark and handsome to a whole new level!! Just look at him and tell me you don't agree.
So, what is it about Patch that makes him so desirable? Well besides his looks......(because we all know he should win just on that factor alone!!!)
Patch really is a man who has it all. He has attitude, he is fluent in snark and sarcasm, he has an air of danger about him, he is mysterious, he's a romantic, he's dedicated, he's a tease, he's lethal, he makes jeans and t-shirts look good, he can fly, he drives a motorcycle, he looks like a God--his body is chiseled in all the right places, and probably my most favorite.......he's an Angel!!! Need I say more???? No I don't have to say more, but I will. Actually I will allow Patch's words to sway you over to his side. He will give you all the reasons you need to vote for him! But before I allow him to sway you with his words, I am going to just show you another reason he should be your choice.....Just look at him.....(you might want to wipe that drool. *points to the corner of your mouth* Yea, right there. Oh, yup you got it!)
Earlier I said that Patch was a tease and sarcastic. Here are just a few ways that Patch demonstrates his ability to make any girl swoon. Now I feel that I must warn you, reading these quotes may cause you to drool, swoon or all out fangirl. So don't say I didn't warn you!
"You should go," I breathed. "You should definitely go."
"Go here?" His mouth was on my shoulder. "Or here?" It moved up my neck. (Hush, Hush)
"You dress to impress." I said approvingly.
"No, Angel." He leaned in, his teeth softly grazing my ear. "I undress to impress." (Finale)
"Nice costume," he said.
"Ditto. I can tell you put a lot of thought into yours."
Amusement curled his mouth. "If you don't like it, I can take it off." (Finale)
"I get my very own guardian angel? What, exactly, is your job description?"
"Guard your body." His smile tipped higher. "I take my job seriously, which means I'm going to need to get acquainted with the subject matter on a personal level." (Hush, Hush)
Patch has the ability to turn anything into a sexual innuendo, from sarcasm to snark, Patch has it, and knows how to use it!
"All I can think about is bed."
"We're sharing the same thought."
"You're thinking about bed too?" But Patch had told me that he rarely slept.
"I'm thinking about you in my bed." (Finale)
He's dark and mysterious with an air of danger.....
"If I wanted you dead five minutes ago, you'd have died five minutes ago." (Hush, Hush)
"I personally believe Patch scared the pants off normal, and it took off running for the far side of the world." (Finale)
"I move in mysterious ways."
"God moves in mysterious ways. You move like lightening-here one moment, gone the next." (Silence)
But the best thing about Patch, is that underneath his rough and hard exterior, underneath all that snark, sarcasm and teasing, lies the heart of an incredible man who would do anything for the girl he loves. Just to show a little of his romantic side here he is to make you swoon.
"I know I can't feel your touch, but I feel your love Nora. Inside me. It means everything to me. I wish I could feel you the same way you feel me, but I have your love. Nothing will ever outweigh that. Some people go their entire lives never feeling the emotions you've given me. There is no regret in that." (Finale)
"I believe in destiny Angel. I believe every choice I've made has brought me closer to you. I looked for you for a very long time. I may have fallen from heaven, but I fell for you."
"I want to wake up with you every morning and fall asleep beside you each night." Patch told me gravely. "I want to take care of you, cherish you, ad love you in a way no other man ever could. I want to spoil you--every kiss, every touch, every thought, they all belong to you. I'll make you happy. Every day, I'll make you happy."
"I have no intention of letting you go easily, something to keep in mind. I don't care if it's another man, your mother, or the powers of hell trying to pry us apart, I'm not easing up and I'm not saying good-bye." (Finale)
And one of my personal favorites....
"I would lay down everything I possess, even my soul, for you. If that isn't love, it's the best I have." (Silence)
Of course there are many, many other reasons to love our Patch Cipriano, and trust me I could go on and on, but I won't. Instead I want to say this.......Patch is one fiercely loyal and de
dicated Angel. He would give up his life, his very soul for the girl he loves. Let's show him some support and help him win this YA Crush Tourney. I know Patch is an Angel, and Patch would never ask this, so don't tell him I am asking you this, Will you be Patch's Guardian Angel and vote for him?? Even Angel's need someone to watch their back!
WINNER OF MATCH #2 IS ALEX!
Micah from Mythology by Helen Boswell
There it is. At last. The rumble of a motorcycle out front. My heart stops for a few beats. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for this moment – the moment when I finally get to meet the love of my life, the star of my dreams, my fictional fantasy come to life.
photo
“It’s Micah, and he’s on a black classic Triumph. His golden hair is windblown and tangled. He looks glorious in the sunlight…And I know that his smile is meant for me.”
Micah Condie is 6’2” of blonde hair, blue-eyed sexiness. A devoted brother, loyal friend and loving boyfriend, he has the biggest heart of any YA crush I’ve ever read. He isn’t afraid of his feelings, and he will do whatever it takes to protect the people he cares for. The only thing not perfect about him is that he isn’t real, and I can’t tackle hug him and swoon over him in person! But there is more to Micah than heart and looks. You see, Micah is a demon – as in literal, fire-and-brimstone, demon from hell. To survive, he must take souls, and if he doesn’t, he will die. It’s a horrible choice, and it would be so easy for Micah to just give up and be the monster everyone claims he is.
image
“You can’t reduce me down to that, like I’m some sort of wild animal that only acts on instinct. I made a decision to be with Hope. And she made the same decision to be with me.”
Micah doesn’t believe in taking the easy way out. He refuses to accept that he is somehow “destined” to be a bad guy because he was unlucky enough to be born a demon. So instead, he fights. Every day he wages a war with the darkness, battling his own nature for the right to create his own destiny and be with the girl he loves.
“I’ll choose you. I’ll always choose you.”
Micah is the ultimate good bad boy. Yes, he has blackness inside of him, but he won’t yield to it, no matter what. And isn’t that what we all do? We all have our dark sides, and we all strive to be the best person we can be. Micah reminds me of that, and when he wins the fight, it’s like I’m winning too. That’s why I choose him as my YA Crush. Because he is the most real, the most human. Demon darkness and all.
“I’m fine,” she says, a small smile playing on her face.
"Convince me,” I say.
She slides her hands up my chest, around my neck. Her eyes don’t leave mine, the uncertainty of the moment gone for both of us.
We step toward each other at the same time, my arms drawing her even closer at the moment our lips meet. Her mouth opens, lips meld with mine in total perfection, and I take in her breath as my own. I run my hands down to the small of her back, and she knots her fingers in my hair and curves into me. The slight movement of her body pressing against me stirs up an entirely different sort of hunger.
Nothing matters except for her.
Nothing.
A small sound escapes from her throat, and my need ignites like flames against all of the darkness.
Way too soon, the bell rings, totally killing the moment. Doors burst open, and the hallway overflows with people and commotion.
“There you are! I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” a voice says.
I groan and press my forehead to Hope’s for just a second before breaking away from her.
“Hey, Sylvia,” she says brightly, linking her fingers with mine. She squeezes my hand before letting go and turns her face up to mine. “See you later.”
Her cheeks are flushed, her lips parted. I let out my breath slowly.
“See ya.”
I drag a hand over my face as I watch her leave, the urge to chase her growing exponentially with each step she takes away from me. It’s not just some stupid possessive needy thing. I know she’s mine as much as she knows I’m hers.
But the second she disappears around the corner, the feeling resurfaces. The one that will always stick with me. The one when I thought she was leaving me for good, right after she saved my life last semester. That moment when I was full of regret that I let her down.
Alex from Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
Hola, book lovers! I'm Rachel from Beauty and the Bookshelf, and I'm honored to be an advocate in the YA Crush Tourney this year! I know I'm biased, but I really, truly love my crush; he's one of my top book boyfriends! I hope you've got a fan ready to cool you down and 911 on speed dial, because you're about to meet...
Alex Fuentes
He's the lead male in Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles, and he's muy caliente. Alex is made up of several different aspects, and in the end he'll steal your heart and take your breath way. If you've already met Alex, then you probably know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, then you're about to find out. He's the boy your madre warned you about. But beware: the following text is highly flammable.
This is Alejandro Fuentes. When he wasn't hanging out on street corners and harassing innocent people this summer, he toured the inside of jails around the city, if you know what I mean. His secret desire is to go to college and become a chemistry teacher.
Cocky
Alex has his issues--he's in a gang, he's trying to keep his younger brothers out of the gang, his family doesn't have a whole lot of money--but he hides that. He does his best not to show weakness, so instead he emanates confidence like it's a cologne he's wearing. Sometimes it smells vial, and sometimes it smells mouth-watering, and that's when the good, light-hearted cockiness makes an appearance.
“Makin' mistakes ain't a crime, you know. What's the use of having a reputation if you can't ruin it every now and then?”
Heart
Family is a very big thing for Alex; they mean the world to him. And when the right girl comes around, she becomes part of that, too. A handful of people get a special place in Alex's heart, a place that means he'd do anything to protect them. He's not an overbearing bodyguard (most of the time)--he's protective in a way that makes your heart stop a beat then pick up at an extremely fast pace.
“I want to know how to make this girl laugh. I want to know what makes her cry. I want to know what it feels like to have her look at me as if I’m her knight in shinning armor.”
Espanol
Chico is a Mexicano, a Latino--and he's not afraid to show it. Alejandro Fuentes rolls an r off his tongue so smoothly, like a cat purring. Some of what he says is foul, but a lot of the time it's just another name to call Brittany, his love interest in Perfect Chemistry. Some guys call their girls "babe" and "sweetheart"--Alex'll call you "mi vida," "mujer," and "mamacita."
Mi vida, if I kiss you, I guarantee there’s gonna be tongue.”
Mechanic
What is it about guys working on cars that's so hot? Alex spends a lot of his time in the garage and shop, working on cars and fixing things. Not to get all English-class on you, but working on cars could symbolize Alex's life and what's happening in it. There's also the fact that some, um, interesting things happen at the shop...
“We’re actors in our lives, pretendin’ to be who we want people to think we are.”
Indescribable
I may be describing Alex throughout this post, but there really isn't a true way to say or show who he is. (You just have to meet him yourself.) He's just Alejandro Fuentes, the boy everyone warns you about but your heart leaps for anyway.
“You are the one girl that made me risk everything for a future worth having.”
Sexy
I've only been saying this for, like, the entire post, but chico es muy caliente. Seriously, he is worthy of some major swoonage. It's not just the obvious sexiness--it's who he is, deep down, as a person. And it's also his smokin' hot looks. (Tattoos. I love tattoos.) He rides a motorcycle. (Holy hotness.) The things he says are pretty sexy, too. Oh, and what he does--woo! Excuse me, I need to go stand in front of a fan for a few days and cool myself down. Alex Fuentes is almost too hot to handle!
“He has eyes so expressive they give a hint to more than what he portrays. He’s dedicated to his friends, family, and even his motorcycle  He touched me as if I were made of glass. He kissed me as if he’d savor it for the rest of his life.”
Trouble
"I knew you were trouble when you walked in..." So, Alex isn't an angel. (But really, who is?) He makes some bad decisions and does some bad things. He has tattoos (not that I'm complaining) and is marked up with evidence that he's part of LB, Latino Blood, a gang you really, really don't want to mess with. Boy can handle a gun and take care of himself in a fight. He's trouble, all right. But trouble isn't always a bad thing.
“I'm not starting any fights. I might finish one though.”
Rebellious
To add to being trouble, Alex can be quite the rebel. (He's a Fuentes; I think it runs in their genes.) His mouth can run off and say not-so-nice things, and he also does some very not-so-nice things. He may use you, depending on who you are. Alex isn't always fond of rules, either. However, that rebelliousness has the potential to morph into something great.
It's your image, what Alex Fuentes is all about. It's your brand, your logo...dangerous, deadly, hot and sexy Mexican.
Yours
Once he finds the one, that girl that's his life, that's it. He's done. He's pretty darn committed and he's yours, and you're his. He'll say sweet things and do sweet things, all of which put butterflies in your stomach. (For reals, this book will put some major butterflies in your stomach.) Alex Fuentes will make you weak at the knees, and you can't help falling for him. And if he falls for you, then you are one very, very lucky girl.
Mujer, you own my soul.
So that's Alex Fuentes: sugar, spice, and everything hot. He's the guy you hate to love and a delicious dose of danger that you need in your life. If you haven't met him, I'd highly suggest reading Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles. In the meantime, join Alex's Gang and vote for him--you know you want to, amigos! And muchas gracias!
Destiny Gift by Juliana Haygert
Destiny Gift by Juliana Haygert
Self-published
Ebook available now
Reviewed by:  Middle Sis Jenn
The Sisters Say:  Interesting world, Mysterious guys, but needs better imagery
Thirty years in the future, a sinister New York City exists in permanent darkness.
A student at the secured NYU, nineteen-year-old Nadine has visions of Victor Gianni, an imaginary guy she has real feelings for. Afraid of being truly insane, she explains the visions away as simple daydreams, but she can no longer deny them when she bumps into Victor in real life. But this Victor doesn’t know her, and turns her away. After the encounter, Nadine’s visions change to those of eerie fates, gods she’s never heard of, demons with sharp claws they are not too timid to use … and instructions.
To discover if she’s losing her mind, Nadine follows the vague directions—with the real, rude and reluctant Victor—leading to a man who knows it all: Nadine can restore an ancient creed by unveiling the clues on her visions, and bring sunlight and peace to the world again. But that’s only if the demons and the other evil forces behind the darkness don’t stop her first.
I am loving the new NA trend in the book world, but since this is a new genre, it hasn’t really begun to fill out in sub-genres such as paranormal romance or dystopian.  So, when I was contacted by Juliana to read her paranormal NA book, I was excited to say yes.  First off, let me just say that this is NA because it follows Nadine, a college student who is struggling through visions of a hot guy, old gods, and ferocious demons.  This is NA because of the age range, not because of sex.  There is absolutely no sex in this book, so I would deem it appropriate for teenagers to read.
Overall, I liked the idea of Destiny Gift, although I struggled with the lack of imagery.  I am a huge mythology buff, so seeing old gods was fun and exciting.  Now, I have no idea if the mythology in this book comes from actual mythology or if it was made up by the author because I didn’t recognize any of the gods or the creatures.  The origins of the gods was also never mentioned in the book, so I’m thinking this is a product of imagination.  Even thus, I’m a fan of anything strange or different.
The world was terrifying, overrun with darkness (literally and metaphorical).  It had the feeling of a futuristic sci-fi movie, where you never know what is lurking around the next corner.  I really liked this part of the book, although I wish we could have seen some more world building outside of New York.  The setting was dark, eerie, and definitely made me cringe at the giant bats and demons that made sudden and deadly appearances.  Still, I wanted to feel Nadine go through these encounters, not just read about it.
There were 2 guys in this book, and both of them are elusive.  You have Victor, the man from Nadine’s visions who happens to be a real guy.  He is shut off, rude, yet there is something about him that screams broken.  Then, there is Micah, the brooding biker who is smoking hot and even more elusive than Victor.  Of course, I’m Team Micah because I love the bad guys.  Both guys have some sort of feelings for Nadine, but their intentions are unclear.  I liked both guys, but I really wanted some more steam.  We really didn’t get anything in the romance department, so that was a bummer for me.
The plot started off with a bang, but then started to slow down near the middle, and then picking up again near the end.  I think that had Juliana added more romance in the middle, I would have found this more intriguing.  Although I was able to predict most of the twists that came at the end, I still enjoyed seeing them come about.
Overall, I think this was a great idea and a great world, but it needed more flare.  I needed to feel the fear and see the darkness that entangled the world, and I just didn’t feel like I was immersed in the story as the pages went by.  But, don’t discount this book because after reading the reviews on goodreads, most everyone else loved it.  I would give this 3 stars because it was an interesting read with some hot guys, but it was missing that edge that makes me unable to put a book down.
Welcome to Blythewood.
At seventeen, Avaline Hall has already buried her mother, survived a horrific factory fire, and escaped from an insane asylum. Now she’s on her way to Blythewood Academy, the elite boarding school in New York’s mist-shrouded Hudson Valley that her mother attended—and was expelled from. Though she’s afraid her high society classmates won’t accept a factory girl in their midst, Ava is desperate to unravel her family’s murky past, discover the identity of the father she’s never known, and perhaps finally understand her mother’s abrupt suicide. She’s also on the hunt for the identity of the mysterious boy who rescued her from the fire. And she suspects the answers she seeks lie at Blythewood.
But nothing could have prepared her for the dark secret of what Blythewood is, and what its students are being trained to do. Haunted by dreams of a winged boy and pursued by visions of a sinister man who breathes smoke, Ava isn’t sure if she’s losing her mind or getting closer to the truth. And the more rigorously Ava digs into the past, the more dangerous her present becomes.
Vivid and atmospheric, full of mystery and magic, this romantic page-turner by bestselling author Carol Goodman tells the story of a world on the brink of change and the girl who is the catalyst for it all.
I really love the cover of this one!  The coloring and the necklace on the front are beautiful.  I like the mix of paranormal and madness in this one, and I'm thinking its going to be a psychological thriller definitely worth reading.
Oh how I just love Talia Vance!  The first book I read and loved by her was Silver, a paranormal, mythology-based young adult book; so when I saw (months and months ago) that she was writing a contemporary spy novel, I swore to myself I would get a copy as soon as possible.  I am so glad that I kept that promise!  Talia once again blew me away!
This book will truly establish Talia Vance as a versatile and fantastic writer.  Spies and Prejudice is completely different from her debut novel, but it will still grab ahold of your heart strings and give them a nice, tight tug.  I just loved Strawberry Fields—ha, literally laughed out loud at that—who goes by Berry.  She’s strong and confident and doesn’t give a crap about what anybody else thinks.  If a guy gets too obnoxious or handsy, she just rears back and kicks him in his special place—or pepper sprays him, whatever works in that moment.  She’s this awesome tough chick whose witty repartee will leave you fighting to catch your breath.
I loved the spy aspect and the gadgets in this book.  I have only read one other ya spy book (Also Known As), so I’m pretty new to this side of the ya genre, but I will say, I am definitely going to have to read more.  I found myself fascinated by all the James Bond stuff that Mare creates!  It literally had me wanting to go on the internet and buy a bunch of spy toys just so I could feel all tough and duplicitous.  I may have to make my 2 year old’s birthday theme “I Spy” this year just so that I can buy some cool techno gadgets!
So…now for the guys!  Because we all know I read these books for the guys.  Who doesn’t?  There are two guys that line up for Berry’s affections—Tanner and Drew.  Tanner is the arrogant and conceited hottie that just grates on Berry’s nerves (and heart), and I was really drawn to the “Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy love/hate” aspect of their relationship.  It might be cliché, but I love when characters go from hate to love.  It always means there are going to be plenty of laughs followed by plenty of oohhs and ahhhs.  It’s a cliché for a reason, people!!  It works, and Talia wrote it perfectly.  I did wish we could see a little bit more into his background and motivations, so I’m hoping Talia decides to write a follow up to this one with a bit more attention on the beautiful jerk.
Then there’s Drew.  He’s genuine and caring, and he seems to really understand Berry.  She opens up to him when she feels like she can’t to other people.  I liked how Drew played foil to Tanner.  Where Tanner was hard, Drew was soft; where Tanner was delicious, Drew was the understated hottie.  They worked well playing off each other, and I found that it added some drama and tension to the story.  I do wish we could have gotten a bit more info on Drew, too.  I knew he was cute and ripped, but I had a hard time picturing him in my head.  Had there been a bit more description, I think I would have seen him better.
Overall, I really enjoyed the action and mystery in this book.  The characters were so realistic, and Berry’s mistakes, pain, and expectations really resonated within me.  I kind of felt like the ending was bit rushed, but that’s the romantic in me.  I wanted to see a big, passionate, “I love, love, love you,” scene like we get in Pride and Prejudice.  Still, I rushed through the pages, not being able to get enough of Talia’s quirky main character and brooding mystery boy.
Cover Reveal/Blog Tour Sign-Ups: THE APOLLO ACADEMY
Okay friends, so here at the YA Sisterhood we've loved multiple YA Sci-fi Books (like Across the Universe by Beth Revis) and plenty of New Adult Books (like Wait For You by J. Lynn), and now we're glad to help out an up and coming author that is bringing both of these worlds together.
That's right... New Adult SciFi is about to blast off and we want YOU to join the launch team! We're looking for bloggers to participate in a Cover Reveal (which is going to be AWESOME) and the blog tour.  Here's what you need to know:
The Apollo Academy by Kimberly P. Chase
Releasing August 6th, 2013 in Paperback and eBook
As  heiress to Titon Technologies, eighteen-year-old Aurora Titon can have whatever she wants—clothes, expensive gadgets, anything money can buy. All she really wants is to escape her pampered, paparazzi-prone life for the stars. Becoming the first female pilot to train as an astronaut for the Apollo Academy is exactly the chance for which she has been waiting. Everything would be perfect if it weren't for her unreciprocated crush on a fellow student, the sexy astronaut bent on making her life hell, and the fact that someone keeps trying to kill her.
The first in a four book new adult science fiction series, The Apollo Academy, is an action packed story of love, discovery, and survival.
"I am obsessed with this book! Suspenseful, sexy, and just a great read!" -Cora Carmack, New York Times Bestselling author of LOSING IT.
Add it on GoodReads here. And when The Apollo Academy gets to 500 adds, Kimberly will be giving away a free flight lesson!!!
