Match #3: Annabeth (Seed #9) vs Kat (Seed #24) goes to KAT!

And the winner is....

Kat!

Welcome to the YA Sisterhood! Thank you in advance for your participation in our Tournament of Heroines! We hope you make some friends (and not too many enemies), discover some fantastic books, and have a lot of fun!

Some general rules before we begin:

There may be some spoilers in the following post. We've tried to keep it fairly general, but overall, this Tourney will not be spoiler-free. So beware.

Secondly, You are welcome to write your own comments about either character in the comments section, but we will not tolerate rudeness. The minute it crosses over from logical argument into character bashing, your comments will be deleted and your vote canceled.  POLLS WILL BE OPEN FOR 24 HOURS AND WILL CLOSE AT 12:01AM EST ON DECEMBER 4th.

And now for the match....

Hi, Guys I'm Krazzyme !!! I'm Annabeth's advocate(duh!)

You can find me on Twitter here. (@kadburytweets). You can also check out my blog here! (My blog is a YA book blog feel free to say hi in the comments !) Help me Spread the word about #TEAMANNABETH please!!

Annabeth is the heroine of The Percy Jackson series and has a part in The Lost Hero and Son of Neptune, even though she isn't the main heroine in both (yet!)

Photobucket
Annabeth in the movie(She's supposed to be blonde though)
"Always, Always have a plan."
--Annabeth Chase

1. About Her

Annabeth's blonde with stormy green eyes and she's pretty but she pretty much ignores guys who call her pretty (She prefers it if you call her smart!). She's the daughter of Athena a.k.a. the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, warfare, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, justice, and skill. So, Annabeth has believe it or not inherited a lot of things from her mother(see list above).

She's a demigod and her home is Camp Half Blood! Even though her mother abandoned her she doesn't hold a grudge against her because she understands her mother's reasons!

She's also kind of a tomboy. She acts tough but deep down she's got a kind heart and believes the best in everyone (or used to anyway)

One of my favorite quotes:

Percy: Don't I get a kiss for good luck? It's kind of a tradition.

Annabeth: Come back alive Seaweed Brain then we'll see.

The Last Olympian
2. Best Attributes

I did mention she's smart right?

Percy Jackson needs a plan.......

He turns to Annabeth! She's also pretty handy with a knife. Beauty and brains is a deadly combination and she sure knows how to use that knife! She's reliable and an extremely hard worker! If Annabeth says she'll do it. Consider it done! She doesn't back down!!!

She also isn't one of those girls who starts swooning at guys on first sight! The quote below proves it ....

'I've been waiting a long time for a quest, seaweed brain. Athena is no fan of Poseidon, but if you're going to save the world, I'm the best person to keep you from messing up."

-- Annabeth Chase (from the Lightning Thief)
3. What makes your girl a true heroine?

Annabeth is one girl I truly admire if I had been through what she's been through *shudders*

Definition of a heroine

1. A woman noted for courage and daring action.
Annabeth has risked her life to help Percy countless times. She's risked her life for too many people and she's very courageous!! You just need to read the series and courage is written all over Annabeth's face!

Do you need a reminder?

Once she was gone, I knelt next to Annabeth and felt her forehead. She was still burning up. "You're cute when you're worried," she muttered. "Your eyebrows get all scrunched together." "You are not going to die while I owe you a favor," I said. "Why did you take that knife?" "You would've done the same for me." It was true. I guess we both knew it. Still, I felt like somebody was poking my heart with a cold metal rod."
~ THE Last Olympian

2. A Woman noted for special achievement in a particular field.
She's smart and nobody can prepare strategies like her!! She's not got a power like Percy's (i.e. power to control water) but she's got a power that counts and that's wisdom and courage!

She also doesn't get scared easily .....

"Money bar," Annabeth said. I'm great at these." She leaped onto the first run and start swinging her way across. She was scared of tiny spiders, but not of plummeting to her death from a set of monkey bars. Go figure.
-Battle of the Labyrinth Maybe you should forget about the spider thing :)

Annabeth is also different from all those other so called "heroines" who fall head over heels in love with guys they barely know. She's someone I can actually look up to. She's not cold and calculating ....she's humane!

She's also fiercely loyal...

"What if it lines up like it did in the Trojan War ... Athena versus Poseidon?" "I don't know. But I just know that I'll be fighting next to you." "Why?" "Because you're my friend, Seaweed Brain. Any more stupid questions?"

4. What makes your girl better than her competitor?

There are quite a few similarities between Kat and Annabeth but one thing that makes Annabeth better.... is the fact that she's never backed down. Kat left her family business (or should I call it job?) to live a normal life and even though I don't hold that against her I have to point out that Annabeth can never back out of her responsibilities and try to live a normal life! She knows too many people depend on her.

Also, Kat doesn't trust anyone even her best friend. Annabeth used to trust her friends but due to *spoiler alert* Luke *Spoiler alert* she doesn't trust that easily anymore but she doesn't keep her friends in the dark. I'm sorry Kat but you should keep your team in the loop.

When Percy thinks Annabeth hates him Annabeth sets the record straight.....that's something I don't think Kat would have done.

"Remind me again-why do you hate me so much?"

"I don't hate you."

"Could've fooled me."

She folded her cap of invisibility. "Look...we're just not supposed to get along, okay? Our parents are rivals."

"Why?"

She sighed. "How many reasons do you want? One time my mom caught Poseidon with his girlfriend in Athena's temple, which is hugely disrespectful. Another time, Athena and Poseidon competed to be the patron god for the city of Athens. Your dad created some stupid saltwater spring for his gift. My mom created the olive tree. The people saw that her gift was better, so they named the city after her."

"They must really like olives."

"Oh, forget it."
-Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

Kat also comes off as a very cold calculating person, something which I didn't really like. According to me, you should be able to relate to your heroines but due to her cold demeanor I found it very hard to relate to her and like her. Annabeth is calculating (she has to be or Percy and all those other would die) but she never came off as cold. I love it when we get a peak into what Annabeth is thinking and how awesome she is!!

5. Anything else you'd like to add?

Intro: This is Amy @ bookgoonie. I am honored to be an advocate for Katarina Bishop from Ally Carter's Heist Society series. Please get the word out by tweeting #HeroinesTourney and "I voted for #TeamKat".

"Travels the world, righting wrongs. A one-woman recovery crew."

About Her: Katarina Bishop was raised in a man's world. Her mother died when she was six and was brought up by her dad and uncle. Nancy Drew wasn't just stories, but every book a lesson to be learned. Her education wasn't conventional. She was tutored in the family business. Art. So history, science, english, theater, math, and economics were all geared to acquire and not get caught. As a young adult, she started blazing her own path. Reposession specialist with a focus on returning Nazi plunder.

Best Attributes: Kat is a strategist. A genius strategist. She is known for her "lethal focus." She can walk into a location and zero-in on all the security obstacles. And if that doesn't satisfy her, she can employ her acting ability or the creative use of doves to identify any hidden or alternative ones. Why does this matter? Kat will not endanger any of her crew. No member left behind, no one hurt, no one in jail. Failure isn't an option. She loves her family. Kat is fiercely loyal to her family, friends and crew. They are one and the same. She is realistic in her abilities and has the capacity to learn from her mistakes. She doesn't accept money for her services. Kat is paid in knowing that she is undoing some of the biggest art heists of the century.

What makes your girl a true heroine? She is a girl. No superpowers. Ordinary and Impossible aren't in her vocabulary. She is not a theif. Kat made a conscious choice to use her abilties for noble and worthy causes. This not-so-average tean has bested the KGB, Interpol and even a Curse. She has even won the respect of the current Visily Romani, the big dog in the art theft world. What's her Achilles' Heel? All heroes need a weakness. Kat is vulnerable. She is unsure of love. Is love a strength or is it a weakness? Can her best friend be her boy friend? But all this personal angst doesn't interfere with the job. You can always count on Kat.

What makes your girl better than her competitor? Annabeth is a worthy challenger. She also had a rough upbringing with little support of her parents. She also finds strength from her friends. But her abilties are derived from being a demigod. Her mother is Athena. Would she fare as well, if she were a mere mortal? I think not.

Anything else you'd like to add? Kat is a great role model for YA readers. She is driven. Her work ethic and determination are something that can be copied by her readers. Not taking the easy out and always trying to do what is right are worthy character traits. So do what is right, Vote Kat.

YA Crush Tourney Hale vs Zachary (Match #18) goes to Zachary!

In a close, heated race, the winner is...
ZACHARY!

Welcome to the 3rd round of the YA Summer Crushin' Tournament.  We are now down to The Excellent Eight.  In this round we will be moving to 1 match a day with matches being on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Polls will be open for 24 hours (8am to 8am) central time.

We've tried as much as possible to keep everything spoiler free, but to really show the best qualities of a character sometimes spoilers are necessary, so BEWARE!!!  Also, feel free to write comments in the comments section about either character, but we will not tolerate rudeness.  The moment it crosses over from logical argument to rudeness, your comment will be deleted and your vote cancelled.

W. W. Hale V (Seed 17)

W.W. Hale V is from The Heist Society series by Ally Carter.  You can find out more about Ally Carter and her books by clicking her name on the side reel of our blog.  Hale is represented by Deanne D, a Children's Librarian in NM. You can follow her on twitter @librarychickD.

Personality:

W.W. Hale V (known just as “Hale”) from Heist Society and Uncommon Criminals by Ally Carter is best friend to and possible, one-day, hopefully boyfriend to Katarina “Kat” Bishop. He is a lot of things but most of all he’s protective; protective of Kat, the family, their chosen profession, and even his first name, which he’ll never share. He’s smart, sarcastic, quick- thinking, loyal and an excellent thief.

Looks:

Ally Carter is purposefully vague on the description of Hale; I think to allow each reader to imagine their own version of Hale. We know he has light brown hair, golden skin (most likely from spending time in exotic locales) and is tall with broad shoulders and is the hottest guy that Kat has ever laid eyes on. He’s also confident which makes him even hotter! Most girls instantly fall into love (lust?) with him but he only has eyes for Kat.

Talents:

He’s a thief! And a darn good one at that! He’s also charming which helps with the thievery. He’s a good con-man and charming so he’s able to talk himself in and out of most situations. He’s smart and open-minded which helps him see solutions to get Kat out of trouble which she always seems to find or always finds her.

Special Attributes:

He’s rich, he has absentee parents so he’s free to travel the world using his family’s resources (private jets, villas) without anyone questioning him, and he’s got a trusting, faithful butler/valet to take care of him. He wears Superman pajama pants! How can you not love a guy who wears Superman pajama pants to bed, especially when he’s sleeping in a room with stolen masterpieces by Monet or Vermeer?

What makes Hale better than Zachary?

We all know that an accent is incredibly sexy and a guy that can wear a kilt? Nice!  But that's really all that Zachary has over our wonderful Hale!  Hale has taken to a life of crime in order to be with the girl he loves!  He follows her around the world and goes along with all of her crazy plans (with a minimum of grumbling).  Sure, he doesn't scare away ghosts but really how many of us have ghosts hanging around anyway?  But if you like that painting hanging in the museum downtown... Hale's your man!  And if you need to be expelled from a posh boarding school in an inventive way... Hale, once again, is your guy!  So just this one time I'll say: REAL MEN WEAR PANTS!

Vote for Hale!!!

Zachary Moore (Seed 25)

Zachary is a character in Shade and Shift by Jeri-Smith Ready. You can learn more about the books by reading our review here. He is represented by Amy & Jen at www.fictitiousdelicious.com(Facebook: Fictitious Delicious Twitter: @FictishDelish)

Personality:

In a city in Maryland they call Baltimore,
Is a hot Scottish boy named Zachary Moore.
He says funny words like ‘bugger!’ and ‘aye’
And has moments so sweet that it makes us cry.
He’s bold, strong, and smart, a science geek,
Writes shoddy love poems, has a competitive streak.
He’s real good at soccer, which makes him quite fit.
He’ll call you ‘bonnie’ when you’re feeling like sh… (bugger, can’t say that) …crap.

Looks:

A once ‘doughy’ lad, with eyes of green,
Has hair of dark brown that he keeps nicely clean.
He’s got giant hands, and you know what they say…
And those dimples of his? You can’t look away!

Talents:

But of all his talents we surely can’t miss
Is the way this Scotsman knows how to kiss.
Now take it to the bridge!
Would he, could he, in a box?
Yes, and it’ll rock your socks!
Would he, could he, in a river?
Yes, and it’ll make you quiver!
He will kiss you here and there,
Why, he will kiss you everywhere!

Special Attributes:

For attributes, his accent is first on the list.
Watch him roll those R’s… yeah, you get the gist.
His mere presence will ward off those pesky ghosts
Which comes in handy when they bother you most.
And let’s not forget to mention the kilt,
Which fits on that body, so nicely built.

What makes Zach better than Hale?
When compared to our Zach, Hale’s far in the dust.
We’ll tell you why Zach is the one you should trust.
Hale’s got THREE arms and gives awkward hugs,
He tucks in his shirt and his hair is all plugs!
Also, we feel we’d be doing a disservice
By not telling you he passes gas when he’s nervous.
NO! JUST KIDDING! But what else could we do?
Zach is our love, but Hale is great, too!
But voting Zach Moore for worthiest crush
Will earn you a teaser that might make you blush!

Anything else you’d like to add?
Remember that Zachary is lastly seeded,
So your vote for him surely is needed!
Jeri Smith-Ready has promised a teaser
If Zachary wins! So don’t vote at leisure!
Vote NOW for TEAM KILT for best crush fictitious,
(And then see our blog, Fictitious Delicious!)

Thanks to you bonnie lasses at YA Sisterhood!!!

YA Crush Tourney: Four vs Hale (Match #10) goes to Hale

AND THE WINNER IS:
HALE

Holy smokes, it is already Round 2!  We are down to our final sixteen which we are going to call The Sexy Sixteen!  Before we get started, it's the same rules as usual. Voting will open at 8am and close 40 hours later at midnight on Tuesday night.  Because of crashing 2 different poll sites in the 1st round, we have decided for the sake of our sanity and all of your guys sleep, to only allow 1 vote per computer.  So call in all of your reinforcements for the next rounds.  With all that said, let the voting begin!

FOUR (seed #1)

Four is from the unbelievable dystopian YA novel, Divergent by Veronica Roth.  You can find more information about Divergent by clicking on Veronica Roth's name on the side of our blog or check out our Divergent Top Ten List.  Four is rep'd by our very own and talented honorary sister, Marylee!  Follow her on twitter @MaryleeTheCrazy!

Personality:

Funny
Original
Understanding
Reticent

Four, (yes it is a nickname) is a wonderfully complex character. Although he has faced many dangers & years of abuse, he is still a good-natured person who is not afraid to stand up for what is right. He is an extremely intelligent, honorable, hard-working, brave young man whose immense skill is matched only by his vast capacity to love. He can take Tris' breath away with a simple touch & although at first she is considered the weakest link in their group, he picks her first to be on his team during a competitive activity because he believes in her strength & sees in her what no one, not even Tris, sees. He cares for her so much that even when he didn't have to, he fought through one of his worst fears in order to be with her & protect her. His wisdom & encouragement help Tris through the grueling & intense process she's going through & he keeps her dangerous secret safe from those who would use it as an excuse to hurt her. He is a tough teacher & at times seems cruel, but his only thought is to protect Tris & keep her alive & safe. He is a quiet & remarkably self-possessed young man but at the same time he is also extremely witty & fun. There is also the minor thing where he saves Tris' life on multiple occasions. Come on, he is the whole package ladies.

"To me, there's a difference between not being afraid & acting in spite of fear as he does."

Looks:

Freakin' hottt
Outstanding eyes
Unique physique
Rad tattoos

Four is, quite simply, gorgeous. He is over 6 feet tall with taut & defined muscles. His tranquil eyes are a dreaming, sleeping, waiting color that are so dark they're almost black, with a small patch of lighter blue on the left iris, right next to the corner of his eye. They are so deep- set that his eyelashes touch the skin under his eyebrows & even when he glares or scowls, his eyes look thoughtful. His lips, that curl when he smiles & that provide Tris with many pleasurable moments (near the chasm, on the train, in his bed...) are full & perfect & the voice that comes out of them is deep &  it rumbles. He has several tattoos, all of which are meaningful to him & which no one besides the artist that drew them &  Tris have seen. He has short black hair that is perfect for running your fingers through... and speaking of fingers, he has long & narrow ones that with the heel of his hand touching one side of Tris' rib cage, his fingertips still touch the other side. Other people in the book describe him as handsome, so you know Tris isn't just blinded by love. He's just a straight-up hunk.

"I close my eyes. His touch is light, sensitive. A heavy warm feeling, like spilling honey, fills my body, slowing my thoughts."

Talents:

        Fierce fighter
      cOmputer nerd
 instrUctor of awesomeness
        Recovery god

Four is one talented son of a gun. He is one of the most-respected people in his faction & his choice not to seek power within it was the only thing keeping him from being a leader. He is strong, athletic,  & fast & not only knows how to shoot a gun & to fight, but can do so with incredible skill. He is also something of a computer genius & works in the control room most of the time. As an exceptional fighter and resident man-of-awesome, Four also gets to train & prepare new recruits like Tris. Because of his high intellect & intuition, another talent of Four's is his ability to think on his feet & recover quickly & seamlessly in times of need, especially when he's trying to save Tris.

"He's figured out more about me than I have. And even though it seems impossible that he could feel something for me, given all that I'm not... maybe it isn't."

Special Attributes:

   Fiercely loyal
prOtective
  sUrvivor
  aRticulate

Four is special in so many ways, but my favorite quality of his is his inner strength. Though I am positive his physical strength could beat the crap out of any guy I know, it is his unswerving goodness that makes him the most crush worthy.  Although he had a terrible childhood & then went to live where extreme violence was an everyday occurrence, Four never stopped believing  in & fighting for the ideal of what his faction was founded on rather than succumbing to the easy corruption of what it had fallen into. That drive to be better pushes him to constantly face his fears in order to make progress & be better even though he is so good already & is what drove him to take a chance on & fall in love with Tris.

"We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another."

What makes Four better than Hale?

  Foxy
hOnorable
qUick-witted
  Reliable

Four & Hale have a lot in common. Both love their ladies and are extremely loyal to & protective of them. Both don't want to share their first names (although Four does eventually). And both are just human, not supernatural creatures, who are both just trying to do the best they can in life. Where they differ is that where Hale has lots of money to go and do whatever he desires, he chooses to be be a criminal & steal things. Whereas Four doesn't have inexhaustible funds & is busy fighting for his & Tris' lives. And even if he did have the money or opportunity to steal artistic masterpieces, he wouldn't, because Four believes in doing what's right, even when it's hard or un-fun. I think that shows that Four has more integrity & is therefore more worthy of your crush!

"A brave man acknowledges the strength of others."

Anything else you would like to add?

Four is the hotttttest crush ever!
vOte for him
  U know you love him!
Read this book if you haven't already!

Four, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love you for your wit, cleverness, & charm. I love you for your bravery, (dauntlessness if you will) cunning,  & general badassery. But most of all, I love you for your passion, caring, & wisdom. Your strength & love know no bounds & my love for you is forever!

This characterization and description of Four is based only on the first book in the Divergent series. I cannot wait to see how this most crush-worthy young man grows and changes in the upcoming books, but I am certain it will only make me love him even more! Divergent by Veronica Roth is one of the greatest books I've ever read. I'm in love with everything about it & I can hardly wait for Insurgent (Book Two). If you haven't read it yet, go do yourself a favor & read it immediately!!!

"Something about him makes me feel like I am about to fall. Or turn to liquid. Or burst into flames." Come on ladies, any man who can make a woman feel like that is the real deal & clearly the most crush-worthy!

W.W. Hale V (seed #17)

What makes Hale better than Four?

Now I'm sure that Four is a great guy and all but there's no way he's better than Hale!  One could argue that what makes a person good/bad/awesomesauce is the set of circumstances or environment they're in.  Four lives in a crazy, future, dystopic world whereas the wonderful, brave, handsome, smart, excellent thief Hale lives in *our* world.  He could be walking down the same street as you or I on this very day!  Now Hale is brave and sexy but he's also relatable, and isn't that what every girl truly wants- someone she can relate to and have things in common with?  True, Hale is uber-rich and that's not something many people could have that in common with him but he could still talk to you about American Idol or the new Harry Potter movie.  In fact, he's so rich he would probably rent out an entire IMAX, 3-D theater so the two of you could watch Harry Potter alone, all romantic-like.  Plus, I can think of 2 YA books with the main guy character named "Four", but there is only ONE W.W. Hale V.  No matter which world you live in (the current one or a crazy, future one), Hale is the clear winner over some guy named Four.

Vote for Hale!!!

Remember voting will be open for 40 hours.  This poll will close at midnight on Tuesday night.  Good luck to our YA Crushes!!!

Get ready for our first match! Where a gorgeous supernatural being faces off against a super hot art thief! So, without further adieu, let the games begin!!!

Nash Hudson (Seed 16)

Nash is represented by Rachel. You can follow her on twitter at http://twitter.com/#!/Rachel498.

Personality
Nash Hudson is the sexy male bean sidhe from Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series. He's confident, popular, protective, and charismatic. Nash loves deeply and is willing to put himself in danger (and risk his life) for those he cares about. He's totally loyal to Kaylee, and despite the fact that he's made some mistakes, he'll do whatever it takes to be worthy of her.

Looks
Hot. Sexy. Gorgeous. Nash is described as having "hypnotic hazel eyes with amazing swirls of brown and green" along with beautiful chestnut hair. Playing football and baseball has given him the perfect physique..and does that paint a great picture, or what? Unsurprisingly, with his sexy smile and perfect body, it's those looks that have practically every girl in school competing for his attention. All in all, when it comes to appearances, Nash has the whole package.

Talents
Being a male bean sidhe means Nash has a particular talent called Influence. He can compel people and project emotions, causing you to feel excited, or relaxed, or angry, among other feelings. He has the ability to direct and restore souls with the help of a female bean sidhe, as well.
Oh, and he's also *very* talented at kissing. And we all know that's a pretty important skill.

Special Attributes
Nash's eyes also act as a sort of mood ring. Whenever he experiences intense emotions, such as desire, love, anger, etc., the colors in his eyes swirl. Which is pretty damn hot.

What makes Nash better than Hale?
On top of being good-looking, Nash is supportive and understanding. He learns from his mistakes, strives to be good enough for Kay, and refuses to be in a relationship with anyone but her. He's brave, too- able to face down demons in order to protect those he loves. And one thing you can count on with Nash is that he's always there when he's needed.

*Spoilery*
Nash also faces the harsh consequences of his past mistakes, and even though things get really rough for him, he's willing to do and endure anything for Kaylee. He knows that in the end, Kaylee is the most important thing to him, regardless of previous events and decisions. And even with another girl after him, he only wants and has eyes for Kay.

Oh, and here's a quote from our drool-worthy bean sidhe that will make you swoon:

"I don't have you, and without you, it feels like what I do have doesn't matter." Nice, right? Hale may be a handsome and rich human, but he's no delectable bean sidhe.

W.W. Hale V (Seed 17)

Talents
He’s a thief! And a darn good one at that! He’s also charming which helps with the thievery. He’s a good con-man and charming so he’s able to talk himself in and out of most situations. He’s smart and open-minded which helps him see solutions to get Kat out of trouble which she always seems to find or always finds her.

Special Attributes
He’s rich, he has absentee parents so he’s free to travel the world using his family’s resources (private jets, villas) without anyone questioning him, and he’s got a trusting, faithful butler/valet to take care of him. He wears Superman pajama pants! How can you not love a guy who wears Superman pajama pants to bed, especially when he’s sleeping in a room with stolen masterpieces by Monet or Vermeer?

What makes Hale better than Nash?
Hale is a normal, human boy. There’s nothing supernatural about him. He’s just a normal (albeit super-rich) guy that loves a girl and will do anything to help her even when he’s been hurt by her. He has never lied to or used Kat. His number one priority has always been her. He’s a hero, not a superhero, just a regular, everyday hero for Kat.
