The Sisters Say:  Ominous, Overwhelming, and Outright Awesome!
Alex.  Aiden.  Seth.  Their past is keeping them together; their present is holding them hostage; and their future is hanging precariously in the balance.  Oh my gods, Apollyon is the akasha of Covenant novels.
Darkness and danger have blanketed  Alex and Aiden’s world—a darkness that pulls at Alex from the inside out, and a danger that not even the gods saw coming.  As the shadows descend, everyone will have to make a choice—a choice to stand and fight or turn and run.  Allegiances will be frayed, powers will be harnessed, and love will be tested.
So we have come to that point in this series…you know the one.  The point where you’re scared to read how it all ends because you just don’t see how it can have a happy ending.  So I have this weight on my heart because this is truly one of my favorite series.  I feel like I know Aiden and Alex and Apollo and Marcus and everyone else on a personal level, and it pains me to know what darkness is coming in the fifth and final book.  But, I like that Jennifer has been able to make such an impression with this series.  I felt this way with Harry Potter, too, because I just knew the death toll was going to be high and my heart was going to break.  After reading Apollyon, I have high hopes for Sentinel—and I know it will leave a lasting impression.
Apollyon is much, much darker than the first three books.  I mean, if you’ve read Elixir, then you know the anger and the madness that plagues Alex.  SLIGHT SPOILER:  It’s brutal watching her lose herself and slowly wither away, but fear not!  For Fate has another plan, and she won’t succumb to the madness for long. END SLIGHT SPOILER  I liked the darkness in this book because it was truthful.  The world is at war, and in war, there are casualties.  I really dislike books where there is some type of war and everyone survives (Twilight, cough, cough), and so I was happy that Jennifer didn’t shy away from death.  Her sight was truthful, and though heart-breaking, it added to the tension and danger that was ever-present.
I’ve always liked Alex in the past books because she was such a smart mouth.  Her comebacks and witty jokes always had me cracking a smile, and I love that she can crack the Buffy-esque jokes when she is in danger.  It just gives her this spice that I think adds to the whole Apollyon bit.  Now, there were times when she annoyed me in this book because she got overshadowed by thinking everything was about her.  She was a bit selfish in her thinking that everyone was fighting to save her, not the millions of other lives at stake.  So for the first time in this series, I was actually bothered a bit by her, but still her strengths definitely outweighed the selfishness, and I still enjoy her more than most heroines.
And of course you want to know about Aiden, right?  Gosh, he is just the best!  He is my absolute favorite book boyfriend—strong and confident, jealous at just the right times, sexy as hell and not afraid to act on his feelings, and genuinely over-protective to a fault.  He’s perfect.  We get to see all these best parts of Aiden in this one, and lots of steamy scenes that will have you blushing and envious!  Hey Jennifer---I’m dying for some Aiden POV scenes…pretty, pretty please!  For Seth fans out there…unfortunately there isn’t much of him in this one.  That didn’t bother me, though, because I have an insane urge to kick him really hard where it really hurts.
What surprised me in this book was that my favorite part was APOLLO!  I don’t know how many times I laughed out loud at Apollo’s actions or words.  For example, at one point he calls Hermes a “punk ass bitch.”  I could just see the gods getting in petty fights where they call each other names and then get angry and start hurling balls of fire and what not—all because someone was acting like a little b***.  Plus, he always shows up at the most awkward of moments, and that just cracks me up even more.  It’s like he’s chilling out in Invisible Land and then right when he sees the most intimate or embarrassing of moments—Poof!  Hello Apollo.  Be prepared to laugh your butt off at this god!
Jennifer L. Armentrout is amazing.  Her words glide effortlessly from page to page, and you will feel as if you are catapulted right into the middle of the raging war.  Alex, Aiden, and Seth are about to find themselves in a stand-off.  There will be no more sitting around waiting to die or waiting to live.  The wait is over.  The end is here.  Worlds are about to collide.

DEITY by Jennifer L. Armentrout Blog Tour, Interview & Giveaways

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the DEITY blog tour!  Deity is book 3 in Jennifer L. Armentrout's COVENANT Series.  And, I will boldy proclaim that 'yes, this book is the best JLA book yet!'  Also, one of the best books I've ever read, EVER!!!  I read this book a few months back, and I still am in the process of picking my jaw up off the ground.

While we were at ALA, Baby Sister Britt read it the first night night we were there.  She proceeded to shreak, squeal and basically pass out right in front of us until middle sis, Jen and I almost locked her in the bathroom.  We wouldn't allow her to say one word to us about the book, so she had to go fan-girl to her computer.  The post under this one is the review/fan-girl session she had that 1st night at ALA.  The review is perfect and says everything that we would dream of saying about this book, so be sure to scroll down and read it!  And, preorder DEITY ASAP!!! INTERVIEW WITH JENNIFER L. ARMENTROUT

YA Sisterhood: In the past we've when given the opportunity to host an interview on a blog tour, we've always chosen book characters. On this blog tour, we decided that we wanted to get to know you better! You know that you are our favorite author, and all 3 of us are in complete awe of you! We're not really sure how it is possible that The Covenant series and the Lux series both came from your amazing mind! Seriously, we're blown away every time we think about it!
Jennifer: Aw, thank you so much! I'm so glad to be here. And I'm pretty much in awe of you gals!

YA Sisterhood:  **Blushes** Thank you!  Okay first off, when did you know that you wanted to pursue writing? Was there a particular ah-ha moment or was it something you just always knew?

Jennifer: As cliche as it sounds, I always wanted to be a writer. I started off when I was wee little and wrote my first book in the 8th/9th grade, but it wasn't until 2007 that I decided I wanted to pursue it seriously. I'm not sure what the changing point was. I think it was more of put your money where your mouth is.

YA Sisterhood: Everyone knows that you are super woman when it comes to how many books you write in a year! Generally, how long does it take you write your first draft?
Jennifer: Ha. Depends. Sometimes it can take two weeks. The shortest was seven days and that was Obsidian. On average it is about a month give or take a week.

YA Sisterhood:  When you are writing, where is your (as Happy Gilmore would say) your "Happy Place"?
Jennifer:  Any place where I'm not being bothered is my happy place.

YA Sisterhood:  With 3 kids, I would say that is my happy place too!  Since you are the hands down QUEEN of creating crush-worthy boys, we are all dying to know if you have based them on anyone that you know? (if yes, can you please give us his address! :D)
Jennifer:  Haha. No. I don't know anyone like the guys I write. Though, that would be really sweet, wouldn't it?

YA Sisterhood:  Bummer! A girl can always hope though right? Can you tell us about how you got the idea for the Covenant Series?
Jennifer:  I've always been interested in Greek Mythology, but I didn't want to retell a myth. When I started writing Half-Blood in 2007, I was really into reading adult books and I loved how kickass the heroines could be in those books--fighting, standing toe to toe with the guys--and I wanted my character to be like that. So I took the myth of demigods and stretched it to the children of demigods and based their social structure on ancient Greece and their stratified society.

YA Sisterhood:  We are so thankful you did!  We can't imagine our lives without Alex, Aiden and Seith now!  Now onto some personal questions, (if you don't mind).
What is something that you have done that you have never told your parents?
Jennifer:  Oh wow. I'd have to pick just one thing?

YA Sisterhood:  What is in your refrigerator right now?
Jennifer:  Soda. Cheese. Milk. Eggs. Pumpkin Pie. I need to go grocery shopping.
YA Sisterhood:  If you could be ANY fictional character who would you be?
Jennifer:  Kaylee from Soul Screamers.

YA Sisterhood:  Oh, great choice!  What is something you would NEVER do?
Jennifer:  Sky diving. I have a problem with jumping out of a fully functional plane for no reason.

YA Sisterhood:  Oh man, me either!  And lastly, just because I want to know, which of your fictional boys would you date? Are you more of an Aiden type girl or Seth (or maybe Daemon type girl)?
Jennifer:  I think I'd probably be a Seth/Daemon type, because I like the snarky humor, but I would want an Aiden.

YA Sisterhood:  You are definitely in our club then!!! Give us the snarky!!!
Thank you so much letting us invade your privacy today, Jen!!! You stinkin' rock our faces off!!!!!!
Jennifer: Thank you so much for having me!

Good afternoon. We are Professors Jen and Amy from the National Crush Institute, here to bring you a breaking discovery.

As you may or may not know, the human brain is a complicated organ that responds to  many types of stimuli. It has been proven that visual stimulation in the human brain of book lovers results in an attachment to loving, handsome boys of the fictional variety, thereby encouraging said human to vote for that fictional boy in online tournaments. On all types of electrical devices.

To prove this scientific study, we present Fig. 1: The Ultimate Crush: Zachary Moore.

F O O T N O T E S

1 Zach falls firmly in the ìNICE GUYî classification of fictional boys and has been referred to as "Captain Patience" Exhibit A: SHINE, page 110. Our research, however, has revealed that Zach recently had a 24 hour lapse in good guy judgment as evidenced in Exhibit B:  #tweetlikeabadboy

2 Examples include: Weddings, Prom, Fictional Character Crush Tournaments, and Jen's Dreams

3 Fans of Zachary Moore seem to be particularly interested in his Scottish accent.  A minuscule sample is found in Exhibit C: Scottish Vortex of Charm

4Specific attention should be paid to Einsteinís Theory of Gravity. Exhibit D: SHINE page 274.

5 Strength is prevalent in this fine specimen. A less refined citizen would say this boy ìis the full meal dealî. Intelligence, astonishing good looks and a heart that is more sincere and giving than any other the young adult literary community has ever seen. Exhibit E: 2011 TEAM KILT Zachary Moore Trailer.

*takes off lab coat*

GUYS! Zachary Moore (from Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready) is the FULL MEAL DEAL and deserves your vote today! Even SCIENCE says so. Youíre not going to argue with science, are you?

If after all this, your vote we lack
Hereís more reasons to vote for Zach:
He brushes his teeth, so heís got no plaque.
His sexy never left so he neednít bring it back.
Under extreme amounts of pressure, he will not crack. (*cries*)
Dances at prom with a wiggity-wiggity whack.
When visiting Irish castles, he knows just what to pack.
He'll protect you like a boss, when you're under attack.
Now go vote for Zach and keep our win on track!

A big thanks to Jeri Smith-Ready for giving us Zachary Moore, the crushiest crushing crush in YA.
Come on over to Fictitious Delicious to join in the #TeamKilt party, enter our giveaway, and have a blast!

“I met an invalid, and fell for his art
He showed me his smile, and went straight
for my heart”

-From "A Child's Walk Home," Nursery Rhymes and Folk Tales

About  Alex:

When Lena meets Alex he is posing as a security guard for the testing center. He has the mark which proves he is cured, but isn't he the boy she saw during her testing? Wasn't he laughing?

Yes, yes he was! Alex is in fact an invalid, someone who isn't even supposed to exist and even better he is from The Wilds!

The Looks:

" His hair is golden brown, like leaves in the autumn just as they're turning, and he has bright amber eyes. The moment I see him I know that he's one of the people responsible for this. I know that he must live in the Wilds; I know he's an Invalid. Fear clamps down on my stomach, and I open my mouth to shout something - I'm not sure what, exactly - but at precisely that second he gives a minute shake of his head, and suddenly I can't make a sound. Then he does the absolutely, positively unthinkable.
He winks at me"

Umm Swoon much?! Did Alex really just wink at Lena during their very first meeting! Yes, Yes he did. Alex has Golden Brown hair the color of autumn leaves just as they are turning and bright amber eyes, and caramel colored skin (tan hottie much?!). And who could forget about that killer smile which he uses to dazzle Lena...and all of us as well!

If you were on the fence about how much of a sexy hottie Alex is I would like to present

Exhibit

:

BAM!!
Woo if that doesn't give you a severe case of amor deliria nervosa I'm not sure what will!

“He Is looking at me through the smoke, across the fence. He never takes his eyes off me. His hair Is a crown of leaves, of thorns, of flames. His eyes are blazing with light, more light than all the lights in every city in the whole world, more light than we could ever invent If we had ten thousand billion years.”

The Personality:

Alex was born in the Wilds and is a member of the resistance, trying to change the way things are run in Portland. Alex is working for the greater good in a society ruled without emotions. A hottie with a cause, how much more could we ask for?!

And on top of all this...he falls in love with Lena and allows her to make her own assumptions about the government. Alex never forces Lena to believe something he shows her all the sides and then lets her decide.

He is confident and supportive:

“There's that confidence again, that semi-infuriating easiness of his, the tilt of his head and the smile. but today it's not infuriating. Today I like it, feel like it's somehow rubbing off on me, like if I was around him enough I would never feel awkward or frightened or insecure.”

A boy who can make a girl feel confident and better in a world full of lies and secrets *swoon*

And persistent:

“For a second we just stand there in silence. Then, suddenly, Alex is back, easy and smiling again. “I left a note for you one time. In the Governor’s fist, you know?”
I left a note for you one time. It’s impossible, too crazy to think about, and I
hear myself repeating, “You left a note for me?”
“I’m pretty sure it said something stupid. Just hi, and a smiley face, and my
name. But then you stopped coming.” He shrugs. “It’s probably still there. The
note, I mean. Probably just a bit of paper pulp by now.”

Alex was determined, even when he didn't know who Lena was, even when he just looked at her from afar he was doing cute sentimental things like leaving notes in statutes just on the off chance she might notice and read them! So freakishly cute I could scream ^^

The Best Qualities:

So while we all like a hot guy, hotties are a dime a dozen. There has to be something under the surface and Alex is the full package deal

He reads poetry aloud (not only does he have banned books, he reads them!)

When he first moved from the Wilds to the city, he cried because of how homesick he was (A man who's in touch with his feelings *double hot*)

He has a great sense of humor and loves to laugh (he will make you laugh!)

He is king of the romantic one-liners or one-pagers depending on the mood  He would literally take a bullet for the love of his life

The swoon-worthy quotes:

“Everyone is asleep. They've all been asleep for years. You seemed ... awake.' Alex is whispering now. He closes his eyes, opens them again.'I'm tired of sleeping.”

“And I love you too.” His fingers skate the edge of my jaw, dance briefly over my lips. “You should know that. You have to know that.”

The Reason You Should Vote Alex:

He is the total package. Great personality, sexy, mysterious, and supportive
He will whisper sweet nothings to you all night
He would do anything for the girl he loves
  He is a great listener
He knows how to laugh, and how to make you laugh
He reads banned poetry books under the stars

So what are you waiting for!? Vote Alex now!!

Match #11: Nora (Seed #10) vs Alex (Seed #23) Goes to Alex

And the winner is...
Alex

Welcome to the YA Sisterhood! Thank you in advance for your participation in our Tournament of Heroines! We hope you make some friends (and not too many enemies), discover some fantastic books, and have a lot of fun!

Some general rules before we begin:

There may be some spoilers in the following post. We've tried to keep it fairly general, but overall, this Tourney will not be spoiler-free. So beware.

Secondly, You are welcome to write your own comments about either character in the comments section, but we will not tolerate rudeness. Logical refutations of a defense or character are, of course, allowed, but if we believe it crosses over into character bashing, your comments will be deleted and your vote canceled.  POLLS WILL BE OPEN FOR 24 HOURS AND WILL CLOSE AT 12:01AM EST ON DECEMBER 13th.

And now for the match....

Hello This is Kimberly I own  Outhouse Reviews and here in the Outhouse we are Team Nora all the way.
Please feel free to follow us here on the blog, @outhousereviews @Kimberlybrasher or on Facebook. Come Join all the fun as we compete to beat our competitor. Let me tell you a bit about Miss Nora Grey...

About her:
Life for this over achieving high school student has been acceptable, with her best friend Vee beside her she lives a decent exsistance Even as she learns to cope with the death of her father she manages to accept that things are not as they once were. Nora grows as a person with each book. The quiet reserved girl in Hush Hush does a complete 180 and is a strong out spoken fighter in Silence!!
Best Attributes:
Nora's best attribute is her brain, she has the ability to talk herself out of any situation. She is also not affraid to go out and get the answers she needs to solve her problems.
What Makes Nora a true heroine:
She is the Queen of snarkiness with an attitude!!!  She's fiesty and independant.  She can get herself out of trouble just as easily as she gets into it.
Why should we vote for Nora instead of Alex:
Our competitor is Alex from Half Blood... unfortunately I have yet to read Half Blood so this is where I get my advantage, I think Nora should ultimately win this round simply cause to me it takes a true heronie to use her brain to gain power over the people who are intending to do her or the people she loves harm.

We urge to Vote!! Help keep The angels happy!!!

My name's Momo and I'm the blogger behind Books Over Boys. I got the honor of being the advocate for the awesome Alexandria Andros from Jennifer L. Armentrout's Covenant series for this tournament. You can connect with me via twitter and facebook to stay up to date with the #HalfBloodLegion as we support our girl, Alex!
About Alex Andros:

First off, according to Aiden, this is what he thought of Alex when he first saw her...after those three years:
Long, thick chestnut colored hair fell past a chest that had grown in the last three years. Her face was oval shape; lips full like a pure-blood’s. Cheekbones high and eyebrows delicately arched over two wide, brown eyes. Even with the faint purplish bruises marring an otherwise flawless complexion, she was… unbelievable.
Beautiful.
And in Alex's own words:
With all the dirt and overall grossness gone, I looked just like my mom. Long dark hair fell down my back; I had those high cheekbones and full lips most pures did. I was a bit curvier than Mom's willowy frame and I didn't have her amazing eyes. Mine were brown, homely old brown.
Alex is irrational, unstable, out of control, wild, crazy, rash, and stubborn but that makes her everything that she is, which is a fighter. She is unpredictable and very quick to act but she believes strongly in what is right versus what is wrong. She hardly ever lets anything faze her and that makes her high lariously funny. She says the darnest things at the most inappropriate times, lol, but what's life without some humor? She's uber sarcastic and tough and edgy and all-out fierce. She lives in this world where all that matters are the pures and their safety. She doesn't want to be forced into servitude so she is in the process of training to be a Sentinel - one who fights and kills daimons → the scary, looking things that will suck the life out of you. Alex isn't a fighter just physically, but she's also a fighter internally...if you get what I mean. She won't take anyone's B. S and she won't ever give up, you can count on that.
Alex's Best Attributes:
Alex stands out to me among all the other female characters because she's funny. I know, anyone can be funny. Okay, not anyone but it doesn't take a mad scientist to crack a joke here and there. Alex is such a smart mouth; she speaks without thinking and that totally comes with its consequences, haha, but you can't help but think, "Omg, I was so thinking that!" She says stuff that you wouldn't say out loud or stuff that you would bite back. She's definitely hard to forget because she has such a character; that's why when the nominations for this tourney began, Alex immediately came to mind. You won't be able to forget her if you tried. Also, she stands out to me because she can definitely hold her own. She'll take things into her own hands when needed; she won't back down and she indubitably won't take no for an answer. Alex is rebellious and at times, that might sound like a bad thing but like I've mentioned, she believes in what's right and if a little rebellious-ness is needed, where's the harm in that?!

What makes Alex a true heroine?

As defined by...dictionary dot com, a heroine is:
  1. a woman of distinguished courage or ability, admired for her brave deeds and noble qualities.
  2. the principal female character in a story, play, film, etc.
In my opinion, a true heroine is someone who isn't afraid to be heard, someone who speaks up and fights back when they see something that is unjust; someone who isn't afraid to dive head first into a difficult situation. Also, a true heroine is courageous and brave and strong; someone who will step up when needed. And according to that, Alex is all of the above. Alex is a fighter, she's resilient and always bounces back after a horrible tragedy occurs. Like they say, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Because of what she's been through, it has shaped her into the kind of character that she is. You can count on her to save your butt whenever you're in a dire situation, that's for sure. Alex is a true heroine to me because she doesn't need a man to get her out of a ditch when she falls into one. She'll tire out all possible chances of saving herself before she'll resort to a man. Did I forget to mention that Alex can stab stuff? Oh yes, absolutely! She's a feisty little thing! Heck, she don't need no dagger or blade, she'll take you down with a garden spade! (OH WHAT?! That rhymed right there! I'm a genius! ;))

Why should we vote for Alex instead of Nora?

Just kidding, well...not completely. I mean, if Aiden would, I totally would because I don't want no gods or Furies screaming at me, "I SMITE THEE!" ;) You and you and you should all vote for Alex because:
  • she's funny
  • she's smart
  • she's tough
  • she's fierce
  • she's strong
  • she's determined
and last but not least, she can kick some daimon booty...so you know, if you had one of those after you, Alex would know what to do! Lastly, you should vote for Alex because I mean, who doesn't wanna see the underdog rise?! #underdogsFTW

Anything else you'd like to add?

Today, on my blog, along with several others, we have revealed the cover to Deity (Covenant, #3) so...you should totally head on over to my blog to see it in all its amazing glory! And lastly, if after reading my defense, you're totally rooting for Alex Andros, you should totally rock a button. Here, I'll make it easy for you and provide the code and everything. ;)

See, how easy was that?! Oh shoot, I almost forgot! *facepalm* Here, check this out, from the author herself:

Did you see that?!

SooOooOooOooOoooO, you know wassup! ;)
ALEX FOR THE WIN, FTW!
