Blog Tour and Guest Post: Snakeroot by Andrea Cremer

Today we have the pleasure of hosting rhe Snakeroot Blog Tour!!  Andrea has been amazing and written a guest post.

Snakeroot sets up a new conflict and the two characters pitted against each other should be very familiar to Nightshade fans: Ariadne (Adne) the Weaver and Logan Bane. Adne and Logan struck me as natural opponents who were destined to clash in a way that would have cataclysmic ramifications for everyone around them.



While Adne and Logan are very different people, they have more in common than one might expect. At the opening ofSnakeroot, Adne is the sole living member of her family. The Witches War took her father, mother and the brother she’d barely begun to know. Though she finds comfort in her relationship with Connor, the toll of so many losses has left Adne vulnerable. In the final battle of the war, Adne discovered she possessed powers unlike those of any other Searcher – powers that Bosque Mar recognized. Adne’s dreams are full of strange, disturbing visions that make her question her place among her peers and her own sanity. Her doubts, fears, and desire for knowledge could pull her away from the ones she loves and into the arms of her oldest enemy.



Like Adne, Logan’s family has been destroyed by the war, turning his world upside and sapping the powers he’d always taken for granted. Though Logan colluded with the Searchers in the final battle, thinking it was the only way to save his own skin, he’s decided that losing his status as a Keeper might be more than he can bear. Logan is used to giving orders, but now he’s forced to ask for help as he searches for a way to regain access to the dark magics that made his privileged life possible.



While their aims diverge, Adne and Logan find themselves following similar paths. Each finds that they may be able to use the other to their own advantage. But trickery and manipulation create a dangerous game and neither Adne nor Logan can be certain who will win.



SNAKEROOT Synopsis:



Picking up right where BLOODROSE left off, SNAKEROOT follows two characters readers know well from the original Nightshade trilogy.  Adne, one of the Searchers and Ren's half-sister, is plagued by nightmares featuring the evil Bosque Mar, now trapped in the Nether and looking for a way out.  Adne's power draws him to her, and he wants, more than anything, for her to come to the side of dark magic and free him. Logan Bane, the Keeper who was once set to rule Calla and Ren's Haldis pack, is one of the few of his kind left, after he helped Shay close the rift between our world and the Nether.  But he wants to re-open that rift so he can re-create Guardians and reclaim the Keepers' magic. He raids the Rowan Estate to find what he needs to perform dark, ancient rituals, but Bosque Mar has turned his back on Logan for his treachery, and without his help, Logan is lost.  The two teens are both battling Bosque Mar--one who wants to be left alone, and the other who wants help.

1. About Her

Isabelle "Izzy" Lightwood is a 16 year-old Shadowhunter. She is stunningly beautiful, which works to her advantage - afterall who thinks the pretty ones are dangerous? Her weapon of choice is a whip, but she also uses daggers (and her charms). While she's out defending the world and keeping peace among the downworlders. She is a lover of fashion and is often seen fighting in boots with heels. She is a bit boy-crazy, but has her sights set on one lucky Simon. She's a bit insecure though, after seeing her brothers get hurt so often.

2. Best Attributes

For starters, she's written by Cassandra Clare! How can you not love her characters?

Izzy can kick ass and do it in style.

She has spunk and a fun, snarky sense of humor.

She has a bit of a tough exterior, but also a soft side for those she loves her family and would do anything for them that she only lets those close to her see.

3. What makes your girl a true heroine?

Izzy is a great heroine, she shows teens that even the "pretty" girls have doubts and personalities beyond the stereotype. She is fierce and loyal to those she loves. Like I've already hinted at, sometimes she may at times be a bit harsh, she always does what is best for her loved ones. When harm comes to them and she is unable to do anything, she is guilt-ridden. Yet she perseveres and is stronger for it.

4. Why should we vote for Izzy instead of Calla?

Calla is great, but Izzy has this entire family who would to anything for her. Calla's situation isn't quite so...pleasant. Izzy's job as a shadowhunter IS to keep werewolves (and other creatures) out of trouble, so she can definitely take her on!

All About Calla Tor:

"...the white wolf who'd been eyeing him was no longer an animal, but a girl with the wolf's golden eyes and platinum blond hair." (pg. 5, Nightshade)

Calla can change from a white wolf into a girl and back again at will.  Calla
has platinum blond hair and golden eyes (but if you have any dumb blond
jokes I wouldn’t recommend using them around her because she could
literally rip your face off).


In Calla’s world there are witches (Keepers), Guardians (wolves), wraiths,
succubus, incubi and even a smidgen of zombies.   The history of this
world is complex because the history that's known has as the saying
goes, been written by the winners.  This means that Calla has to figure
out who she can trust.


In a refreshing sort of way the two love interests are both actually
likable and she has many reasons for choosing either one.  This allows a
lot of great tension to happen and lets the reader enjoy an actual
believable love triangle where you don't know right away who she will
choose.


Calla is a strong character who finds that most of what she knows about her
world is wrong and yet she continues to go forward and look for the
truth.


She tries even when terrified:

"My twisting gut didn't feel badass at all; it felt like pudding." (Calla pg. 409)

She makes hard decisions every day:

"As an alpha I could help my packmates get the things they wanted, but there wasn't anyone who could do the same for me." - (Calla pg. 137)

A True Heroine:


Calla shows that she’s a true heroine in the very first pages of Nightshade when she faces down a rampaging bear to save the life of a stranger.  She does this even though she knows that in doing this that there could be horrible consequences for her.  This fearlessness is one of Calla's great strengths as a character and shows that she tries to do what is right no matter what the cost.


Why you should vote for Calla instead of Izzy
- She can transform into a freaking wolf (I don't know about you but I think that that is extremely cool.)
- Sure they can both fight but I would bet that Calla would win on pure
awesomeness alone especially since she’s not a normal type of werewolf
(Being a Guardian means she can shift into a wolf whenever she wants).


Anything else you’d like to add:


This is a supernatural story that has a lot of heart and some great
unexpected twists and turns.  It's  about choosing your destiny and
figuring out which path is best.  Overall it's just a fantastic world
full of characters that you can truly care about.

Gosh, I think I might be actually incapable of writing this review. Does anyone else find it hard to write a review for a book that you’re really really addicted to? I feel like I’m so obsessed that I might not have the clearest opinion, but I've tried.

I had so much fun reading this book! It was fun; it was entertaining; and it was just bloody "fang"tastic! OK, I know that was cheesy, but, trust me, the book is good. There were so many things I liked about this book that it is hard to know where to even begin....

The book starts off with Calla, an alpha werewolf on her "protection" duty, saving a human boy named Shay. Personally, I do not like "world" set-ups; I loved that, as the reader, I was just dropped into the story and had to learn the "rules" of the society as I went along. Andrea Cremer is able ease you into the life of the "Guardians" and slowly peel back and expose the secrets of the society.

I love the setting of this book.....It is set just outside Vail, Colorado. I actually just got back from near Vail for vacation and am now wondering if I walked by a werewolf!!!!! Seriously, though, as I read the book, I could picture the backdrop which made the story come alive.

When Calla saves the human, it is not hard to figure out that what Calla is doing is "against the rules", but who doesn't like a little rebellion in a heroine?!?! Throughout the book, it was easy to relate to her as she is torn between duty and desire. I am not one who likes to told what to do, so I was at one point screaming at the book when her mother told she need to start dressing nicer. I kid you not, I walked around in shorts and a tee-shirt with my hair in a ponytail for three days just to show solidarity with Calla. (that is until my mom asked me why I was dressing like a slob and told me start looking more presentable!) She's an interesting character who has to deal with the pressures of leadership, societal expectations, and an arranged marriage. I definitely felt her inner turmoil and dilemma and completely sympathized with her.

One of my favorite characters in the book is Calla's best friend and Beta of her pack....Bryn. Throughout the whole book, you see her loyalty, her friendship, and her love for Calla and Calla's family. *****SPOILER***** I also really appreciated the secondary love story of Bryn and Calla's brother. It really helped put in perspective the "rules" of love and courting within the pack.

*********WARNING*******SPOILER ALERT************

But, I have to say, OMIGOSH, if I was told I had to marry Ren......sign me up!!!! He is HOTTT!!!! He is all tough on the exterior, but just a broken boy who wants to be loved at the heart of it. And, I am sorry, but if I was kissed like Calla was in the bathroom scene.......sorry, I just fainted for minute there.....well, let's just say, I would be RUNNING to the alter! Ok, so at the beginning of the book, I thought he was a male chauvinist pig, but then we peel the onion and find out that he is sweet, he is sensitive, and he is just down right wonderful! It is no wonder Ren was one of the top 25 crushes for our crush tournament.

Then, there is the human boy, Shay. First, I have to say that I absolutely cannot take a male character named Shay seriously. The only Shay's that I know are girls! So, it was a little difficult for me to take a boy named Shay serious as a love interest. But, I do realize that is my own issue that I must get over. At first, when Calla saves him, I absolutely loved him and could not figure out why some of my friends did not like him. But, as the book goes on, I start liking him less and less. It is hard to put a finger on it, but it just seems like he a bit immature and hasty, and likes to unnecessarily push people's buttons. There is also a scene where he just walks up to Calla and asks to sit at her lunch table with her pack mates and Ren (who Shay's knows she's engaged to); what is that about!?!?!? It is like he is just asking for Ren to be the crap out of him!

Speaking of which, when the two guys got in a huge fight over her......totally sexy! I'll take two HOT guys who are amazing kissers fighting over me any day!

Speaking of kissing, this book has some sexy make out scenes!!! Some of them made me blush they were so good! Deep down I am a sappy romantic, so give me stolen kisses in the night any day!

Sometimes, I feel like all I talk about is hot boys and kissing. Well, that is because mostly that is all I talk about. But, this book has action too and plenty of it. Andrea Cremer leaves you no room to relax. There is action and adventure with each new chapter. So much so, one night, I had to force myself to put the book down so I could go to bed. Cremer throws curve balls and fights to leave you unable to stop until everything is resolved. What an adventure!!!

Finally, the villains....oh, the villains. I don't know who I hate more....Bosque, Efron, or Logan. They are all part of the "Keepers" who are enslaving the "Guardians" and forcing them to abide by their every command. About the time, I said, "Come on, just stand up to them", the book explains why they can't and I am left speechless. So good, it gets me mad as I am writing this!

All in all, I would have to definitely recommend this book. I was a bit "werey" of a book about werewolves. Personally, I have NEVER been "Team Jacob" (Edward will always hold my heart....well, besides my husband, of course) so I did not want to start to like werewolves, but I really liked it. It is a different twist on an old folklore and refreshing to see it presented in a different light.

If you are looking for a good book to finish out your summer with, pick up Nightshade. It will be the perfect book to read on the beach by the light of the full moon!

Personality:

Oh my lord, Ren. Let me see if I can break down his personality for you guys. He’s

strong (has to be considering he’s destined to be the Alpha of his own werewolf
pack). There is an air of danger to him that makes him unpredictable and exciting.
He’s confident, witty, and could charm a polar bear into buying ice. He is a little
on the cocky side, but somehow it makes him even sexier. He’s protective and
possessive, but hey, he can be protective and possessive of me, anytime! He is the
ultimate bad boy. But what makes him my favorite bad boy? He really loves Calla,
and seeing him trying to open up to her emotionally made me melt. 

Bad Boy+Romantic= Best Literary Boyfriend Ever!

Looks:

Tall. Dark. Handsome. Muscle-y. Perfection in human form. And well, perfection in

wolf form, too. Ren has dark, charcoal hair and eyes, matched with a killer body. He

definitely has the looks to back up his confident personality. I sort of picture him

like this:

Talents:

Well, Ren is poised to become Alpha, which means he is overall the strongest young
Male wolf in his pack. He’s strong, fast, and a great fighter. He’s also very intelligent
(no dumb jock syndrome here). One of my favorite Ren quotes is when he’s dancing
with Calla in a club, and she is more affected by his presence than she wants to
admit. She pulls back saying, “I’m a lover, not a fighter.” And Ren asks her, “You can’t
be both?” Because that’s exactly what Ren is—a lover and a fighter. A warrior and a
romantic.


Special Attributes:

I think Ren is such a unique character. He is far from two-dimensional. Like I’ve
said, he’s a bad boy, he’s cocky, he smooth, but he is also very caring, open-minded,
and fiercely loyal. Being Alpha, he could have easily let his cockiness take over and
be a complete jerk, but that’s far from the case. He is so protective over the other
people in his pack, and when he finds their protection outside of his control, he is in
complete emotional turmoil. He isn’t judgmental of his pack’s personal decisions—
he supports them and treats them like family with unconditional acceptance. I feel
like most love triangles have the bad boy vs. the good guy, but honestly I think Ren
is a bit of both. I’ve clearly already covered the bad boy part, but he has everything
you normally look for in a “good guy.” He’s always there for Calla (and the pack).
He’s caring. He’s willing to put himself into danger to help Calla. He can be sweet
and romantic. He listens to Calla. He doesn’t try to force her into a submissive
relationship—he wants her to be his equal. I swear—this guy is perfect. Just the 

right balance of stability and excitement.

What makes Ren better than Patch?

I think Ren and Patch are really similar. They both have that bad boy background,
but they fall for a girl and devote everything to her. The real difference—Patch has
that troublesome martyr complex that is so popular in YA fiction. In Crescendo, he
acts like a real jerk (and puts Nora through a lot of crap) in an attempt to protect
her by separating them. In Nightshade, Ren does the opposite. Rather than inflicting
pain on Calla, he takes all the pain on himself, and he’s the one who gets hurt trying
to give her what she wants. And the amazing part? He’s so loyal, that he’s not even
bitter about the pain she causes him. He’d do it all over again, because he loves her.
But just because he gave her what she wants, it doesn’t mean he’s giving up. He’s
loyal and persistent. Also, focusing more on the writing, I think Ren is a much more
well-rounded and complex character than Patch. Ren seems so much more real than
Patch (yes, I know Patch is a fallen angel, so he isn’t quite human, but neither is Ren,
and yet Ren’s humanity seems so much stronger).


Anything else you’d like to say?

I’ll just say this. When I set out to read Nightshade, I was sick of werewolves. I’d
read several werewolf books recently, and I just wasn’t impressed. None of them
really captured me, so I went into Nightshade not expecting much. I was travelling,
and I just needed something to read. But then I picked it up, and couldn’t put it
down. Ren just did something to me. And if you’ve read the book, you know there
is another love interest that Calla seems to favor, but I was way too entranced with
Ren to even care about him (and I know I’m not alone there). It was the type of
book that I finished, and immediately went back and reread all the sections that had

Personality:

Patch. Patch Cipriano. Oh gosh! How to describe this hunky piece of smoldering sexiness! Patch is the ultimate bad boy! He's got that "I don't give a crap" vibe going on and it makes you curious about him and why he just doesn't care. He's carefree and tough and sarcastic and witty and uber sexy!

He has that really hard and guarded facade about him but as you read more about him, he has his soft side and he's the sweetest thing in the world! He totally has that dangerous 'thing' on lockdown!

He's such a total flirt and he's not like the brooding type either, like I said, he just doesn't give a crap! But that's exactly why he's crush-worthy!

Overall, Patch is that whole package, you know, the one where he's the ultimate sexy, dangerous, hot bad boy! What more could you ask for? ;)

Looks:

Whew! Don't get me started on his looks! EEE! I'm a mess right now; let's see if I can get through this.

First of all, raise your hands (Yes, both arms please!) or...say I if you love a man who can work the whole "sexy in all black" thing? I know, right?! Patch also has that thing down to the core! He's got that black t-shirt, black pants, black boots, black hair, and of course, the mysterious black eyes down to a T! Woot!

Patch is described as a mint scented “dark-Levi’s, dark-Henley, dark boots kind of guy”. He has dark hair and his dark eyes. See? What did I say about working that "sexy all in black" thing? LOL, workin' it, this Patch!

Patch is just hot. Sizzlin' hot!

Talents:

Oh gawh! Patch will leave you breathless and always wanting for more! He'll kiss you here and there and right when you're about to faint, you know, from being breathless and all that, he pulls away and you find yourself chasin' after him, wanting more!

He's an angel, a fallen angel at that! He fell for love! (Ha, had to giggle at that line!) ZOMG, like that is the cutest and most adorable thing EVER. He is crazzzzzy about Nora and he hearts her unconditionally and he proves so in the book. Just read it and if you have, you know what I'm talking about!

Patch is very charismaticand the stuff he says will linger forever in your mind long after he's already said them!

One of his most famous lines: "You can call me Patch. I mean it, call me." *jaw-drop* EEEE, squealing like a little school girl over here!

Special Attributes:

Patch and his lines! He has the power to just say things that will leave you dumbfounded and blushing straight down to the core! For example:

WAIT!*brakes!* SOME, MORE LIKE ONE, OF THE QUOTES FOUND BELOW COULD BE A BIT SPOILERY. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

He accepted that statement with a nod.

"Do you want to possess my body?"

"I want to do a lot of things to your body, but that's not one of them."

"Guard your body." His smile tipped higher. "I take my job seriously, which means I'm going to need to get acquainted with the subject matter on a personal level."

"You should go," I breathed. "You should definitely go."

"Go here?" His mouth was on my shoulder. "Or here?" It moved up my neck."

Ohmygosh, right?! What did I tell you? ;) Ah!

What makes Patch better than Ren?

On top of everything I've said up ↑ ↑ there, Patch is the bad boy turned good BUT he doesn't become all clingy and sensitive. He still keeps his wits with him and all of his sarcastic remarks don't leave him.

He honestly and truly cares for his lady! Due their circumstances, it doesn't seem like it at times but he has the softest spot for her!

Patch is just too much for words, but whether you're read the books or not, all I can say is:

Patch is absolutely crush-worthy because he's sexy, he's tough and he's got that mysterious and dangerous vibe workin' for him! Plus, he's a dang good kisser!

Also, who else in the world has a name like that, Patch. Patch Cipriano. So bad-a**! <3
